Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by following Jesus, thriving in community, and healing the world.

QUICK LINKS

Pastor's Note

Friends,

There is a hymn I hate to love: UMH 558, “We Are the Church.” It is a wonderful hymn that is almost irritatingly catchy. Just mentioning it here guarantees that the refrain will be looping in my head all week!

And yet, I couldn’t help but think of that song during Sunday’s Ministry Empowerment Fair in Fellowship Time. As I walked around and saw tables set up, conversations happening, laughter shared, and sign-up sheets filling, that simple refrain kept echoing in my mind: “I am the church, you are the church, we are the church together.”

This — the Church — isn’t about me. It isn’t about a small handful of folks (my “twelve disciples”) quietly doing everything behind the scenes. It is about all of us responding to the grace given to us, or “faith working by love”. It is about each of us discerning how God is calling us to be in community and then stepping forward with willing hearts.

Our life together is strongest when it reflects the gifts of the whole body. Some are called to teach, some to serve, some to pray, some to lead, some to encourage. When we each find a place to contribute, we participate in a shared witness as followers of Jesus Christ in the United Methodist way.

The beauty of Sunday wasn’t just in the displays or the sign-up sheets. It was in the reminder that the Church is alive when its people are empowered to be in ministry. It was in the realization that ministry is not something done for you, but something we do together. Let's be the church together!

First Church Roseville represents at Tarbiya Institute's Interfaith Iftar at Sac State

Grateful for our First Church contingent at the Interfaith Iftar organized by our friends at the Tarbiya Institute, serving the Muslim community in Roseville, Natomas, and Elk Grove.

It was a beautiful evening of hospitality, prayer, and shared conversation as our Muslim neighbors break the fast during Ramadan. We are thankful for opportunities like this to build friendships across faith traditions and to deepen relationships through presence, listening, and mutual respect. We’re better together. 💛

Step Back in Time at First Church with our "Fashion Through the Ages" Show - Saturday, March 14

When First Church first opened its doors in 1882, what were the ladies of the congregation wearing? Bustles and bonnets? High collars and lace gloves?

Fast forward to 1920: the year the 19th Amendment granted women the right to vote. Surely the women of Roseville celebrated (whether the men were quite ready or not!). What might that historic moment have looked like in fashion?

And just wait until you see the daring swimsuits of the 1920s — scandalous for their time!

Come discover the styles, stories, and social changes that shaped generations at our “Fashion Through the Ages” show.

Parish Updates, Community Events, & Connectional News

United Methodist News - United Methodists lead witness for immigrants in D.C.

More than 2,000 people of faith gathered on Capitol Hill to worship, sing and march to bring attention to the plight of immigrants in the United States. The event brought together United Methodist bishops, clergy and laity alongside faith leaders from several traditions to stand in solidarity with immigrants. From our region, pastors from Stockton (Central), Woodland-Knights Landing, Sutter Creek-Ione, and San Jose (Primera) participated in the event. Read full article here.

United Methodist Bishops Call for Prayer and Peace in the New Middle East War

"We stand resolute in remembering the uncompromising call of Jesus: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9). This calling is a summons to act with courage and with a steadfast commitment to honoring the dignity and life of every human being." Read the full statement here.

Lenten Alms Invitation

During this Lenten season, we invite the First Church community to consider a special offering as part of your Lenten discipline. Traditionally, almsgiving comes from what we intentionally set aside or redirect — a gift that reflects thoughtful simplicity and compassion. Gifts received will be shared between the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund and the Helping Hands Endowment Fund, supporting care and assistance for those in need within our church and wider community. Please mark your gift with “Alms” on the notation line.

Ad-Ministry Council Meeting scheduled for Sunday, March 15

If you have questions about Ad-Ministry Council, please connect with Liz, Council Chair., or the Pastor.
