Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by following Jesus, thriving in community, and healing the world.

QUICK LINKS

Pastor's Corner

Friends,

I am 'back in the office' after five days attending the annual conference session in Sacramento. It was a full weekend with inspiring messages, fun fellowship, items of business, and thought-provoking workshops. On Sunday, Jan and Elba, our lay members to annual conference, will share brief reflections on what stood out for them during this time of holy conferencing.

I want to express my gratitude to the Sechrist's and to Elba for helping me in my role as Chair for Worship on the Commission on Annual Conference Session. "Many hands makes light work" is absolutely true. Thank you!

In her episcopal address, Bishop Sandy asked the body a vision-filled question:

"What if in a one-mile radius around every United Methodist community there was food security, affordable housing and health care, a healthy environment, fair and just work, great education and care for seniors, support for working parents and places to gather to celebrate life and connection?"

Can we do this, First Church? Is this possible in our corner of Roseville? Let's imagine together and get to work!

I can't wait to worship with you all on Sunday!

First Church Roseville honored with One Matters Award at Annual Conference

On the final day of the Annual Conference Session, First Church Roseville was celebrated with the prestigious One Matters Award from Discipleship Ministries. This special honor is given to congregations that have shown renewed vitality by increasing baptisms and professions of faith — from zero to at least one — in the past year.

Accepting the award on behalf of our church were Lay Members to Annual Conference Jan Sechrist and Elba Aulich, along with Pastor Angel, following the showing of a heartfelt video produced by our very own Cameron Banghart. First Church Roseville was selected from among all the congregations in the Great Northern District—a meaningful affirmation of our shared ministry and growth!

This Sunday - Hot Dog Fundraiser Lunch

Join us for a Hot Dog Lunch after worship on July 6 in Backman Hall! This fundraiser supports First Church, and we’re inviting everyone to give a free-will donation per meal. Each plate includes a hot dog, sides, and a soda. Come enjoy good food and fellowship for a good cause!

Bishop Olewine re-appoints Pastor Angel to First Church Roseville for third year

In the United Methodist world, July 1st is like New Year’s Day—it marks the beginning of a new pastoral appointment year. On Sunday morning, Bishop Sandy Olewine officially “fixed” the appointments for the 2025–2026 year, confirming that our pastor, Rev. Angel Rivero, will continue serving with us here at First Church. We’re grateful for Pastor Angel’s continued leadership and look forward to another year of ministry, growth, and shared faith together!

Great Northern District welcomes Superintendent Mike Harrell

Today marks the beginning of Rev. Mike Harrell’s new appointment as Superintendent of the Great Northern District—which includes our very own First Church Roseville.

Rev. Harrell brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as a parish pastor, assistant to the bishop, and most recently as the United Methodist student coordinator at Pacific School of Religion. We look forward to welcoming him to First Church in the near future and sharing in ministry together.

The Great Northern District spans 88 congregations, reaching as far north as Smith River, California, and as far east as Ely, Nevada—a diverse and dynamic region we’re proud to be part of.
