Advent Workshop Tours

Since we cannot all gather for Advent Workshop on the first Sunday of December, we would like to offer you a unique Advent experience in these unprecedented times. We are inviting you to tour the church as a household in the first few weeks of December. Advent stations will be set up for you to view as you make your way through our newly renovated spaces. Materials to make an Advent wreath and ornaments will be available for you to take home at the end of your experience. We invite you to join us on a prayerful walk as we celebrate the child of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love - the child who is God With Us.

The opportunity to sign up to take an Advent tour will be shared during this next week on the website and in the next e-news. Only one household may be in the building at a time, and there will be a 30-minute gap between tours. Sanitization stations will be available throughout the building. Tours will be available during business hours, and limited evening and weekend hours will also be available.

If you would like to participate in the Advent Workshop, but are unable to visit the church, please let us know and we'll deliver materials to you so you can join us in spirit.

We hope to be able to share our beautiful building and the wondrous message of Advent with you soon!

Are you looking for a little peace?

As 2020 continues to throw challenges at us all, many of us have come to feel depleted and tired. We lament our losses. We feel frustrated and adrift. In this stressful season, it is important to create time and space to re-center ourselves - and to connect with the God who grounds and restores us.

We invite you to join us for 3 of the remaining Zoom studies on Spiritual Practices. The meetings will be held at 10 am on Thursday mornings. If Thursday mornings are inconvenient for you, the sessions will be recorded and can be watched at your convenience! Each of the sessions is self-contained, so you may attend as few or as many as you like! The sessions will be led by Rev. David Hill and Jen Bertoni.

The remaining sessions are:
Nov. 19th: "Centering Prayer Practices"
Dec. 3rd: "Prayer Practices for People Who Can't Sit Still"
Dec. 10th: "Dedicated Action and the Practice of Prayer"

Please call Jen in the office (440-775-1711), or EMAIL to sign up for the sessions, so we can send you the Zoom recording links and any supplemental materials and resources. We look forward to sharing these peace-giving practices with you!
Pecans for the Holidays!

If enjoying the excellent products of Koinonia Farm and supporting their mission is part of a holiday tradition that you'd like to keep observing, visit their website by clicking on the button below to see what they offer.

While Linda Slocum will not order quantities to sell this year, she is happy to aggregate orders to save on shipping charges. If you'd like to place an order for Linda to deliver to you home in mid-December, please email your selection to her at lrslocum@gmail.com by Friday, November 20

Their pecans are absolutely the best!

Welcome to Koinonia Farm!

Since our founding in 1942, we have welcomed and shared with anyone and everyone regardless of race, religion, no religion, background or anything else that divides people. We are an Intentional Christian community with a rich history — from the Jordans and the Englands founding the farm, to the bullets, bombs, and boycotts of the mid century, to launching the Partnership Housing Movement that became Habitat for Humanity, and the birthing of many, many other projects. Explore our site and plan a visit — we are a house of hospitality with plenty of guest rooms. We would love to welcome you to the farm!
Executive Council approved a plan to assign church Gmail accounts to committee chairs instead of using personal emails at their October meeting. Standing Committee Chairs can now be reached via email according to the name of the Committee. The office is implementing this plan.

All Committee Chairs, Church staff, EC Moderator, Clerk and Treasurer now can be reached via email using the extension of @firstchurchoberlin.org.

Email addresses are available on the website and in other publications for quick access. For a complete list of addresses, please click on the button below.

Consider Sponsoring a Child this Christmas

First Church is working with Oberlin Community Services to sponsor 35-40 families this holiday season.

A special email will be sent by the end of this week that will contain all the information needed on how to sponsor a child this year. We will have sizes and ages of the children as well as other pertinent information that is helpful when shopping and selecting items. OCS is collecting donations of gift cards and presents. Thank you for considering sponsoring a child this holiday season and spreading some Christmas cheer!
