Easter Sacrificial Offering Update

The Easter offering was a success, and we achieved our goal of $125,000.

Of that amount, $55,000 went to the work that member Doris Stephens has been involved with for years in France with efforts that support two projects. One is a seminary in southern France (FLTE) which is working on a new library and research center. The other project is with imagoDEI. This fund will be used to support an evangelical outreach ministry throughout France and other countries.

HUG (Haiti Under God) received $55,000. Its board needs funding assistance for two projects in Haiti. One is for Solar Bibles; the second one is for a multi-purpose building on Cha Cha Mountain for medical purposes, housing for short-term mission trips, and storage needs.

Dr. Ed Gross, also a member, is writing a reformed theology book for third-world pastors. He received $15,000 to fund the publication and distribution of this book. Dr. Gross uses this material in his work in China and Africa.

Each group working with these projects has received the funds and has expressed sincere thanks to our congregation:
From FLTE: “Thank you very much for the extremely generous Easter Offering from First Pres. We appreciate your generosity and are excited to be able to work together to build the Kingdom of God in France! Your gift is an important part of that movement.”

HUG sent a note: “Thank you for including HUG in the 2021 Easter Offering. These funds are going toward our Solar Bible project as well as the multi-functional structure to house female missionaries and a medical clinic. Thank you for your continued support.”

Dr. Ed Gross sent a deep heartfelt “thank you” to the congregation for supporting his work on his latest book for third-world pastors. This donation will help get this new book in their hands sooner to help their ministry.

World Missions Committee

Thank you

A few weeks ago, and much to my surprise, the Seniors (CIA) put on a celebratory evening to commemorate my ten years of ministry here at First Presbyterian Church. I came in June 2011 as the Minister of Teaching and, in 2013, following Sinclair Ferguson’s retirement, you called me as the Senior Minister. Ten years has flown by, and it is genuinely difficult for me to believe that I have been here that length of time. I am grateful beyond words for our wonderful congregation, and it is a pleasure to serve you. The evening had speeches (lots of them, and one or two were emotional). At the end of the soirée, Rosemary and I were presented with a very fine-looking wooden box. On the cover, engraved on a piece of polished brass was my favorite text: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you” (Psalm 56:3). Inside the box were fifty or more letters written by senior members of the church. I have not read all of them yet since I can only take so much affection in a single day! And to cap everything off, there was cake! Lots of cake, including my favorite, Italian cream cake.

Please accept from Rosemary and me our heart-felt thanks for all the planning that went into the evening. It was most memorable.

Derek W.H. Thomas
Senior Minister
New Sports Ministry Director

We are excited to welcome Joseph Yi as Director of Sports Ministry. Joseph recently graduated from University of South Carolina and has been actively involved in our College and Sports Ministries during his time at UofSC. Jimmy Easterby will continue to work with Joseph and the Sports Ministry as we seek to grow this important area of our church.
