Women’s Fall Small Groups

I love summer. It is my absolute favorite time of year. I love my kids being out of school, pool days, and family vacations. I prefer sunscreen to winter coats and do not mind at all putting my young children to bed during the daylight. Somehow I must have blinked, however, because it is now mid-July. In a month, my children will be back in school, and I am sure we will once again be ready for the rhythm of the school year.

Just like with my home, there will be more rhythm to the Women’s Ministry this fall. Our Foundry (one-on-one discipleship) program will be back in action, this time with a bit more structure to help facilitate gospel-oriented conversations, and we will be initiating Women’s Small Groups. These small groups will meet weekly at various times and in various locations, but we will all be studying From Garden to Glory: A Bible Study on the Bible’s Story by Courtney Doctor.

This study will require commitment and effort but, as with so many things in life, is sure to be quite rewarding. It is simple enough for a new believer but deep enough to enrich the spiritual life of even the most seasoned Christian. There are five days of study to be completed independently each week, and the small group meeting time will consist of a video (produced in-house at First Presbyterian Church), prayer time, and discussion.

Please visit our website (firstprescolumbia.org/women) to watch the video about these groups and to sign up, or send me an email with your questions. Registration is open now and will close August 6.

Congregational Meeting

The Session has called a congregational meeting to take place on Sunday, July 18, to elect members of an Associate Minister for Discipleship Search Committee, an Associate Minister for Missions Search Committee, and any other business. The meeting will begin immediately following the 8:30 a.m. worship service. After members of First Presbyterian Church who attend that service have had an opportunity to vote, the meeting will recess until 12:30 p.m., when those who attend the 11:15 a.m. service will be able to vote.

The nominees for the Associate Minister for Discipleship Search Committee are: Dave Van de Water, Chair; Chris Daniels, Bruce Easterling, Robbie Reading, Billy James, Helen Laffitte, and Jason Luther.

The nominees for the Associate Minister for Missions Search Committee are: Robert Belding, Chair; John Bunge, Paula Hill, Brad Stutts, Scott Timmons, David Taylor, and Kevin Vickery.
