Spaghetti Soirée

With the dawn of the new year comes a renewed excitement on my part to minister to and with the elderly at First Presbyterian Church. I can only aspire by the Lord’s grace to be as much of a blessing to our “mature” members as they have already been to me. To enhance the already vibrant spiritual life of our elderly, your Elderly Care Committee envisions the development of, among other things, “activities that create inter-generational opportunities for the elderly to interact with younger church members.”

I am thrilled that some ideas are already taking shape to intermingle the generations. On February 7, our youth will host the Encouragers and AIA for the first annual “Spaghetti Soirée” in Jackson Hall at 6:00 p.m. (If you are new to our congregation, you may not know that our Encouragers are open to single adults, aged 50 or more. AIA stands for Adults in Action, and is comprised of married couples, 50 and over. These groups have periodically met for fellowship, fun, and mutual support.)

At the Spaghetti Soirée, our youth will serve the adults a delightful spaghetti supper that Chef Rich has graciously agreed to prepare. Then youth and adults will sit and enjoy the meal together. Your youth leaders and I are excited about the potential this event holds for sparking new relationships between our younger and older members and galvanizing existing ones. It’s all about relationships in the Body of Christ, and how the Lord might use them for his glory. I, for one, can’t wait for my own children to get to know the wonderful senior adults at First Presbyterian Church. I pray this event will be a springboard to future intergenerational ministry endeavors. Stay tuned and pray with me, expecting the Lord to do great things!

Because of Christ,
Rev. Bryan Bult
