Celebrate Our Confirmands

Please stop by the loft after the Easter Egg Hunt this Sunday, April 20, to have refreshments as we celebrate our youth being confirmed that day.

New Nursing Room

Did you know that FUMCOR has a new Nursing Room? Located on the third floor just outside the balcony entrance (Room 301), you will find this private room with a rocker, changing station, and audio/video feed options from the Sanctuary. We are happy to have this new private, quiet space for parents and their newest family members!

Celtic Worship Moved to April 27

Typically our Community Celtic Worship Services take place on the second Sunday of the month at 5:00. As in April the second Sunday was Palm Sunday, St. Stephen's has decided to move the Celtic Worship to April 27. They will host another Celtic service, two weeks later, on May 11. FUMC will host again on June 8th. For more information, contact Jenny Caughman (jcaughman@fumcor.org).

Willing Workers Set To Assist You on May 3

The dedicated team of FUMCOR Willing Workers has scheduled a Spring Work Day for May 3. This is a great opportunity to get some support with household tasks like trimming shrubs, attaching hoses, and replacing bulbs or batteries. Please contact Mark Diemer (865-483-5410) to discuss projects and confirm a visit to your home on May 3! We look forward to seeing you then!

Volunteer for Youth Pride Fest

The FUMCOR Social Concerns Committee is seeking volunteers to help with the Oak Ridge Youth Pride Fest 2025. As in years past, we're looking for folks from our congregation to help with this annual event to be held Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m. This year's theme is "Freedom to Express Ourselves." LGBTQIA+ Youth will have the opportunity to experience fellowship and fun in a safe space. Help is needed with check-in, snacks, and activities for all or part of the afternoon. Activity stations will include Art, Games, Drama, Reading/Books, Expression (Selfies), Crafts, Zen-Tango, Face Painting, and more. Our own Rev. Ken Sauer has volunteered to be the "dunkee" in a dunking booth sponsored by the Social Concerns Committee (note that our volunteers may try their luck at "dunking the minister"!). If you can't participate in person, help is being sought to supply snacks for the event as well. To sign up, please contact Greg Smith at smit92611@gmail.com.

First Presbyterian Church Hosts Video and Discussion Series on the Environmental Crisis

Starting on Earth Day, Apr. 22, a series of hour-long videos, called “The Week,” will be offered to the Oak Ridge area community in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church, 1051 Oak Ridge Turnpike, for three evenings at 7:00 p.m. on Apr. 22, 24 and 25.

Participants will spend 30 minutes discussing each video on the causes of and responses to the world’s environmental and climate crisis.

The series explores the collapse of life, pollution that is causing cancer and otherwise harming human health, and the climate crisis. Warming of the climate will likely trigger a rising number of billion-dollar weather-related disasters and increased migration.

According to The Week’s website, “The environment is breaking down and the climate is changing rapidly. The Week is a group experience to help us see what’s coming, and what we can do about it.

“Too often, the environmental crisis feels abstract and overwhelming. The Week is a way to engage this issue, for real, with our friends, family, or colleagues. It doesn’t tell us what to do but empowers us to make up our own minds so that we can say down the line, ‘I knew what I needed to know, I did what I needed to do, and I have no regrets.’”

The community is invited to the free showings and discussions, and light refreshments will be available.

April Special Offering - Children and Family Ministries

During the month of April, our congregation will have the opportunity to support our Children and Family Ministries through our special offering. The church’s financial support for this ministry means that we can continue to provide a safe, loving, and fun environment for families.

We offer monthly events that are designed to give families the opportunity to spend time with one another, connect with others, and grow in their relationship with God. Along with our monthly events, we have yearly events that could not happen without the financial support of our church family. This summer marks our fourth year creating our own Vacation Bible School curriculum. Creating our own curriculum has been wonderful, but it comes with a larger financial burden as we are creating and purchasing all the materials needed to make a memorable week for the students who join us. This year, we will enjoy “Game Night: Learning to Win with Jesus!” Your financial gifts will help us bring games alive right inside our church building!

Our Children and Family Ministry is full of wonderful families who are eager to connect and be invested in First Church. We ask that you help support them by supporting this ministry through your gifts of giving or volunteering.
