Dear Connect HS Families,

This past Monday and Tuesday Connect HS/DVX opened the 2022/2023 school year at our new location, 550 Continental Blvd., El Segundo.  As with any school opening, the first days were filled with excitement and challenges. However, the entire Connect HS/DVX team should be celebrated! This team prepared intensively for 2 weeks on preparing campus for the return of our students including, but not limited to, learning Canvas, creating an asynchronous schedule for students and revising rubrics. The team collaborated and created a comprehensive orientation plan for students on their first day.  It is our hope that your students will share what they learned or what is different about their high school with you at home. 

We enjoyed welcoming new and returning students to campus!

Latest on CANVAS

We were able to have students log into Canvas with their Da Vinci email accounts and select “forgot password”.  However, this did not work for all students.  We are working to ensure students gain access to Canvas.  For those students who cannot access Canvas, please contact your teachers directly for assignments. All students were given their teachers’ email addresses. 

Parent access to CANVAS was sent out on August 17, 2022.  Connect HS elected to be the test site for this part of the roll out.  Please send an email to ConnectHS@davincischools.org with feedback on the ability for parents to access Canvas.

Learning Logs  FAQs click here

An extremely important aspect of our program is how we collect attendance. As a hybrid program, we fall within the category of an “independent study” program and as such, we must provide a record of the learning students do 5 days a week, both at school and at home. 

We do this through “Learning Logs” and every single day students must record their learning! It is mandatory from the state and students who fail to do so lose attendance credit and put our school at risk with funding and state compliance. Thank you for understanding and supporting this important aspect of what we do! We are thrilled to have a dedicated teacher, Tina Hannouche, assist your students' advisory teacher in tracking student progress and reviewing learning logs.  If you have Learning Log questions please email Tina at: CHannouche@davincischools.org.

UCLA Math Diagnostics

Beginning next week in your students Math OR Success Habits Class students will be taking a math diagnostics.  This is NOT an assessment that will go towards their grade, however a diagnostics to collect data on your students current math strengths.  Students in the 9th grade may have their classes switched to into an Algebra Foundations class to prepare them for Algebra I in the Spring Semester.

SAVE THE DATE – September 17, 2022 from 9:30-11:00am (Please attend!) 

We are so excited to offer our PARENTS an orientation event designed to support you as a new OR returning parent! Connect HS Parent Orientation will take place at 550 Continental Blvd, El Segundo (attendance via ZOOM is an option) and the meeting will be recorded.

• No UberEats, DoorDash, Postmates, etc… deliveries
• Early pick up/dismissal - Parent/Guardian (listed on PS) need to come into the office with an ID to pick up students.  This is for the safety of all.
• Students who are 18 or older may check themselves out or clear their absences WITH written permission from parent/guardian that will be kept on file (the forms are available in the front office).

Club Day

On Monday, 8/29 and Tuesday, 8/30 during the Advisory periods, Connect Crew will host Club Day.  If you are interested in participating in any Connect HS campus club or would like to form a club, this event will be your opportunity to learn more.

Da Vinci Studio Orchestra

DV Studio Orchestra is a year-long performance ensemble, incorporating all woodwind, brass, string, and percussion instruments, as well as any number of vocalists. This ensemble will perform for several concerts and community events over the course of the year, and in addition to the scheduled Monday and Wednesday class meetings from 3pm – 4pm at the 201 campus in the music room on the 1st floor, students should be prepared to rehearse and perform beyond school hours on occasion. The prerequisite for admission to this course is a minimum of 1 year of symphonic band, string orchestra, or choral ensemble experience. Da Vinci Robotics Team

COVID reminders

Please report all positive cases to School Nurse Emily Green: egreen@davincischools.org. 

Close contacts should wear a mask indoors for 10 days from exposure. Contacts do NOT have to quarantine at home. 

 COVID testing is available at school. 

• Rapid covid tests are available at school sites before school and during lunch, no appt needed. Students, please pre-register for testing here. It is a rapid test and results are available 15 minutes later. 
• Home Tests are available at school sites during school hours, please request from the health office/front office.

Reusable Water Bottles

We have water stations around campus.  Send students with reusable water bottles they can use to fill up with water.

Families Staying CONNECTED Parent Directory:

As we prepare for another school year, we would like to extend an invite to interested parents/guardians to be included in a Connect HS Family  Directory. If you would like to OPT IN to the Family Directory please click the link and complete the form. 

Regardless of whether you participate in the directory, ALL Da VInci Connect families will be invited to school events and receive information from our newsletter, teachers, etc.
