Show Florida that Redevelopment Works

With the first week of Florida's legislative session underway, we are continuing to advocate for CRAs across the state through our Redevelopment Works campaign.

For an update on the proposed legislation attacking CRAs, please go to the MyFRA portal here

We applaud those who voiced their concerns with this legislation through advocacy letters to Florida lawmakers. To view some of these letters, click below.

We encourage FRA members to use these letters as a guide in reaching out to Florida lawmakers to voice your opposition to HB 9 and SB 1054.

If you would like your letter added to our Redevelopment Works page, please email Carol Westmoreland at cwestmoreland@flcities.com.
FRA Awards Spotlight: Lake Worth CRA

The Lake Worth CRA won the 2018 Transportation Transit Enhancement Award   for Royal Poinciana Trail - a non-motorized pathway !

Completed in February 2018, the Royal Poinciana Trail is the newest non-motorized, shared-use pathway in Lake Worth. This 1,500-foot linear pathway winds through one of the most economically distressed areas of the city. Originally conceived in 2013, the purpose of this project was to safely connect the area schools to the immediate residential neighborhood. Primarily funded with grant dollars from the Florida Department of Transportation, this project was completed on time and under budget.

Congratulations, Lake Worth CRA, and keep up the good work!

FMLC Helps Local Governments Fund Projects

The Florida Municipal Loan Council's bond program helped the City of Bradenton finance the construction of a public parking garage in downtown Bradenton.

The parking garage will house roughly 500 parking spaces to replace a parking lot located behind the City Centre. The garage will include office space for the Manatee Chamber of Commerce and retail space on the ground floor, a second-floor balcony overlooking Main Street, and an exterior plaza with green space. The project will cost approximately $13.8 million and is expected to be completed in early 2019.

The FMLC has issued more than $1 billion in bonds to 58 municipalities since 1998. Their fixed-rate program is designed to give local governments the ability to finance or refinance projects on a cooperative and cost-effective basis.
