Melissa Lugo won the lottery for CHI's first completed manufactured house in Cortlandt Manor - a brand new, 1,500 square foot ranch on over an acre of property. It was a welcome surprise after having applied for a dozen affordable homes throughout Westchester County.
As a single mom with an 11-year old son and a 10-year old daughter, Ms. Lugo did not think homeownership was a possibility. But through CHI's manufactured housing development and a $40,000 down payment grant from the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation administered by CHI, Ms. Lugo and her two children moved in to their very own home last month.
CHI's manufactured housing initiative was financed by the Leviticus Fund, a source of capital for nonprofits working for social justice and equitable opportunities based in Tarrytown. The second manufactured home is about two months away from completion and has a buyer.
