FirstLife this week is a special "Why I Sing" edition. You'll hear from different church members on how their musical journeys have shaped their lives and made them who they are today. We are thankful for all those who lead our congregation through music and worship!
Why I Sing: Steve and Patti Foster
Steve and Patti Foster have been singing all their lives. They both grew up in musical families and met in the Carson-Newman Music Department. Their backgrounds and degrees in music uniquely prepared them for their careers and the ministries they’ve served in throughout the years.

Today, Steve is the Golden Notes Choir Director here at First Baptist, and Patti sings in the choir. Their love of singing has taken them on a journey to reflect God's love everywhere they go.

Why I Sing: David Mosher
“At early times in my life, I don’t think I really understood how music could be used as a way to glorify God,” says David. “But I learned more and more that it was a way I could praise God and offer myself back to him.”

David believes God creates us as musical beings. That belief shapes and colors everything he does.

Why I Sing: Haley Womack
Haley Womack and her husband, Matt, came to Knoxville in June of this year. Haley is a Financial Counselor, and Matt is in Law School at UT. Both grew up in Baptist churches and describe themselves as “Baptist at heart.” So trying out First Baptist Knoxville was a natural progression for them.

“We tried a few other places,” says Haley. “But First Baptist is a beautiful church and everyone was really welcoming. On our first day, everybody recognized we were a new couple and greeted us. We were really impressed.”

Community Opportunities & Needs
Opportunities  within First Baptist
Kids Hope Mentorship
Our Kids Hope Mentors will begin a new year of service in just a few short days with South Knox Elementary School. Volunteer Mentors meet with their “littles” for one hour once a week for a time of playing, talking, and schoolwork. These mentors are modeling servant leadership that often goes unnoticed. If you would like to get involved in this ministry there is still time. Whether you are a college student or in retirement, you are welcome! Contact Arthur Clayton ( aclayton@fbcknox.org or 865-246-4661) today to get involved in the life of a child.
Continuing Efforts in Hurricane Harvey Relief
There are families in Texas who are very grateful for the donations First Baptist has sent their way, but they still need help getting their lives back on track. Donations will be used to help repair homes in the Rockwood area, where churches are sending laborers to build with the resources we send. Any and all help is appreciated, and will be used to help families regain footing in their lives.
