Stay safe, and stay standing!
Molly Johnson is FirstLight Home Care Silicon Valley's Director of Client Services. She is focused on helping seniors age-in-place in a safe, healthy, and dignified manner. She is also an advocate of putting tools in people's hands to help identify fall risks and encourage people to seek the support of their physicians, family, and caregivers to be proactive in preventing falls.
Hazards in the home can often be identified and moved or adjusted with little time and effort, but with huge payoffs in preventing a fall.
  • Are there any burned out light bulbs?
  • Do we have any loose carpet?
  • Is a chair or step stool unsturdy?
  • Are the stairs and floor clear of objects?
  • Do we have the correct handrails in place and are they functioning well?
Medication mismanagement continues to be one of the greatest contributors to falls, hospitalizations and hospital readmissions. A simple medication record form, like the one found below, can be a valuable step in reducing your risk of falls and ensuring proper usage.
Join the FirstLight Home Care Team and walk with us on October 17 in the Silicon Valley Walk to End Alzheimer's!
Instead of gathering in a large group, this year we are inviting you to join our team and
walk in your neighborhood, parks, or favorite walking path - socially distanced of course! You can choose where you walk, how far you walk, and who you walk with. Every person who registers for the Walk will receive a set of Walk Flags mailed to them, and if you raise $100 you will also receive a Walk T-Shirt!
While the world may feel like it's been on hold, the threat of Alzheimer's disease hasn't been. That's why this year's Walk is happening everywhere. Don't forget to register for our team and join us in raising awareness on October 17!
