September brings us the first days of school, Labor Day, the early signs of fall, and Healthy Aging Month! This national observance brings focus to the positive aspects of growing older. At FirstLight, we are focused on all aspects of senior wellness and adding positive, healthy habits into your daily routine. This month's menu release is just one of the many tools we have available to support our clients in this endeavor!
September's menu release is a focus on immune boosting vitamins and minerals. Vitamins A,C, E, and D, alongside Iron, Selenium, Folate, and Zinc can be helpful in building a natural defense shield for your body. Staying healthy is everyone's priority during the current pandemic; and while we all work to reduce risk in a variety of ways, it's important to keep our diet top of mind as one way to always support our brain and body health.
FirstLight caregivers can support with meals from start to finish. We can assist with the shopping, meal prep, and clean-up of your next immune boosting meal. Caregivers are also adept at making any modifications to meet dietary requirements, or personal preferences.
All of FirstLight's caregivers and clients have access to the recipes for each of this month's menu items. If you would like the collection of recipes yourself, please reach out today and we will be happy to send it to you.
As with past month's menu releases, each day of the week is a different feature -- Healthy Choices, From the Sea, One Pot Meals, Comfort Classics, and this
month's featured decade - the 60's! Additionally, we are featuring a signature dish from one of our local senior-focused Chefs. Don't miss Westmont Santa Clara Chef Gustavo's Sudado de Pollo, an approachable Colombian dish with pictures and instructions included - this is one we can all try at home! If your community or facility has an exceptional Chef, please let us know so we can feature them in an upcoming issue.
Happy Healthy Aging Month, happy cooking, and happy eating!
