V-41 Papa's Pilar
As promised, here are more behind-the-scenes images from our recent photoshoot in the Florida Keys. We started with the Valhalla 46 Trust Fun in North Key Largo and wrapped up in Duck Key by spending some time aboard Papa’s Pilar, a stunning Stars and Stripes Blue Valhalla 41. She’s outfitted with a custom Palm Beach Towers (PBT) gap tower and an abundance of fishing equipment and accessories for chasing a variety of species – everything from sailfish and marlin to dorado, wahoo and bottom fish.
From Hawk’s Cay Resort, we blasted out to Tennessee Reef to conduct interviews with two members of the Papa’s Pilar fishing team – renowned captain Scott Walker (left) and Mike Schmitt (right), Community Director for Papa‘s Pilar Rum.
Together, they gave us an in-depth look at how Papa’s Pilar has been outfitted to excel as the ultimate center console fishing machine for south Florida and the Keys. Scott and Mike covered everything from the boat’s maximized Hooker pump and live well capacity to the tower-mounted electric teaser reels and Gemlux internally rigged carbon fiber outriggers. The duo hit on all aspects of fishability, but also raved about the Valhalla’s speed, stepped-hull performance, engineering and build quality. They complimented Valhalla Boatworks – and the Viking subsidiaries of PBT and Atlantic Marine Electronics – for going above and beyond to make sure all their needs were met during the planning and build process.
We ended the shoot with Photographer and Media Specialist Kyle Juall launching the drone to capture some running footage. The teak rocket launcher was the perfect home for not only a half dozen rods but also a couple bottles of Papa’s Pilar ultra-premium rum, inspired by and named after Ernest Hemingway and his 38-foot Pilar. A big thanks to Steve Groth, the owner of this V-41, a member of its fishing team and the founder and CEO of the Hemingway Rum Company in Key West.
