Fish the White Fly Hatch on the Yellow Breeches Creek with NCC-TU and Orvis-endorsed guide, Tom Baltz.
Tom Baltz is an expert on the white fly hatch and all the local fishing spots. We plan on fishing the Yellow Breeches and Big Spring, two legendary Pennsylvania
limestone streams.
On August 20th, we will meet up at 11:00 at the parking lot by "The Ditch" on Big Spring Creek, near Newville, PA. Bring your own lunch if you plan to fish in the afternoon, or meet us later in the day. We will provide driving directions if needed. From The Ditch, we will spread out along the catch and release section of Big Spring, fish during the day with Tom Baltz, and then head down to the Yellow Breeches. We will have an early dinner so that we can get set up for an exciting evening.
It will be up to the participants to share Tom's guiding fees, which will be around $50 per head. Because of this, registration for this trip will be binding. As of July 27, we have only two places left on this trip.
This is an ideal trip for beginners as well as anyone who likes to get in the middle of a great hatch. It is easy wading and easy casting with minimal back cast hazards. Usually the hatch is later in the afternoon so plan on staying until dark, but there is a lot of great fishing even before a hatch. Please be sure to bring a flashlight or head lamp, as a light is essential for evening fishing.
Tom will give us helpful hints on tackle and tactics before we hit the water, he will have some of his beautiful flies for sale, and NCC-TU will provide some flies as well. Boiling Springs is about 2 hours north of the DC area. The fly shop in Boiling Springs has been acquired by new owners, and reopened as TCO Boiling Springs. The new shop has everything an angler could possibly want or need.
