Fisheries Technician

Missouri Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit

Duties: Assist MU researchers from the Fisheries and Wildlife and Computer Science programs in collecting fish habitat data in non-wadeable streams and rivers using remote sensing technologies. Sampling will include, but is not limited to, aerial drones, 360 cameras, side scan sonar, and acoustic doppler current profilers (ADCPs). Applicants will need to be available for at least two days/week Monday-Thursday this spring. There is opportunity to continue working over the summer and into the fall. Time not in the field will be dedicated to processing imagery data from previously mentioned technologies for training AI models. 


Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Interest in fisheries and using advanced remote sensing technologies
  • Experience sampling riverine habitats
  • Experience operating and trailering boats
  • Organizational skills to handle large amounts of data


Pay Rate: $15/hr

Hours: 20 – 30 Hours/Week

Start Date: Mid/Late February 2024

End Date: TBD
