Annual Okemo Fit Day
(featuring alpine ski and
*new this year*
snowboard equipment) is scheduled for
Sunday, September 29th from 9 am - 1 pm on the Okemo Mountain School Front Lawn
at 53 Main St in Ludlow (rain location: Jackson Gore Ice House).
Though the event goes until 1 pm, please plan to arrive no later than 12 pm so that you have adequate time to browse equipment - the vendors will be packed up by 1 pm.
All of the latest equipment will be there for you and your athlete to take a look at for the upcoming winter. Skis/snowboards will be there in all sizes to determine the right length and boots will be available in a range of sizes to try on. Remember to bring ski/snowboard socks for your athlete! There also will be some poles, goggles, and helmets as well. Please note that you will not place orders directly with the race reps for each brand, but with a local shop that carries the brand you want. Local shops will be at Fit Day to process orders should you wish to place them at that time. Remember that our local Ludlow shops will honor race pricing on alpine ski racing equipment for all Okemo athletes who are USSA members. Race pricing represents a significant savings over regular retail. While there will be largely alpine ski equipment at Fit Day, Freestyle Ski athletes will be able to check out boots and can also take the opportunity to talk with shops about freestyle or freeride skis for this season.
New this year, Darkside will be attending and snowboard coaches will be available to help snowboard athletes select the right gear for the upcoming season.
Snowboard athletes should plan to attend to check out equipment from Burton, Libtech/Gnu, Bent Metal Bindings, and DC. Not only is Fit Day a great chance to figure out gear before the start of the season, it is also a fun day to catch up with all of your OMARA friends!
We are also excited to announce that, in conjunction with Fit Day and as a part of a national effort,
OMS is hosting a "Spin-a-thon"
to raise awareness and funds for the Kelly Brush Foundation (KBF) and, specifically, the Stop the Bleed initiative. The Stop the Bleed Spin-a-Thons are being organized by the Kelly Brush Foundation, which last season assembled and distributed more than 650 Bleeding Control Kits and worked to present dozens of instructional clinics. This was in response to an increase in laceration injuries in recent years. The Kelly Brush Foundation has been working for more than a decade to improve safety in ski racing. At Okemo, we have had all head coaches and more, including snowboard and freestyle, attend lifesaving Stop the Bleed Clinics and we have Bleeding Control Kits in the hands of each of these coaches - all thanks to the Kelly Brush Foundation. We believe these steps are important to ensure the safety of all of our snow sports athletes. We have also been grateful recipients of grants for B-netting from KBF and really appreciate all they do!
On September 29th, our goal is to keep the spin bikes in our gym moving for the entire duration of Fit Day! Click
or read on for several ways to get involved:
- Sign up for as many 20 minute time slots as you want HERE and make a minimum donation of $1/minute of riding you plan to do ($20/time slot) by following the link below. Then encourage your family and friends to support your ride by donating to our OMS/Okemo Comp Center team's effort as well. See more details below.
- We will also take walk-in participants on the day of the event, but anyone who pre-registers will get an OMS magnet. KBF is also providing cool water bottles, which will be first come, first served and go to pre-registrants first!
- If you are unable to ride or attend on the 29th, you can still make a donation in support of our OMS/Okemo Comp Center team! A donation of only $40 is enough to support the purchase of a Bleeding Control Kit for a coach, volunteer, or official.
We have set up a team on the KBF fundraising page through which you can make a donation in support of your own time on the bike, or a family member or friend! Visit the page
and click "Donate to the Team" to join our efforts to improve snow sports safety! You can share this link with family and friends to gain their support of your efforts!
As an additional means of support OMS will be making a donation of 10% of all school stores sales on Fit Day!
Help us join the effort to keep all athletes safer out on the hill!
Also - don't forget to sign up to sponsor or play in the upcoming
9th Annual OMS Benefit Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 28th! Always such a fun time and a highlight of the Fall! Reconnect with your Okemo friends and all of your favorite coaches! Athlete teams welcome!
