Five for Five
July 2023
Five of the Top Stories at Five Counties this month!
Meet Adam, the Face of Five Counties
If there’s a face to Five Counties Children’s Centre, it may be Adam White.

Adam is a strong advocate and promoter of the life-changing work that goes on at Five Counties for kids and youth receiving treatment for physical, developmental, and communications challenges. Adam has a unique perspective, as a volunteer, former board member, past chair and — perhaps most significantly — a client who received treatment at Five Counties for many years.

Fittingly, Adam was the keynote speaker at our Annual General Meeting in June, where he shared stories of his time at the Centre:
“Growing up at Five Counties really meant that I had a place to come to
where I felt very welcomed... Early on in my life, that gave me the sense
that really I could do anything I put my mind to. My parents told me that
and the staff at Five Counties told me that. When you take that
atmosphere as the foundation for your life, you can’t help but benefit.”
Record-Breaking Year at Five Counties

When it comes to helping kids in its region, Five Counties went above and beyond in 2022/23.

Last year saw the Centre serve more than 6,200 children with physical, developmental and communication needs. It’s the largest number of clients served in the nearly 50-year history of Five Counties.

“It’s a real testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff to provide life-changing services to our kids and families in many different ways and means, including through the use of technology and virtual visits,” says Scott Pepin, CEO of Five Counties. “We’ve never slowed down, even through the pandemic.”
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for Supporting Our Social
We’re very grateful to all the attendees, donors, supporters, volunteers and others who made our second annual Backyard Summer Social a success.

The gala fundraiser held on June 24 raised $41,664 to support priority services like speech and occupational therapies that benefit children in the community while reducing wait times for these life-changing services.

Despite having to move some activities indoors due to rain, there was still plenty of excitement and enthusiasm, say organizers.

A Sneak Peek into Treatment Services
In late June, Five Counties was pleased to host Michael Parsa, Ontario’s Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, as well as Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith.

Both individuals toured our Peterborough site and met with our staff, families and members of our Board of Directors. The tour was an opportunity to share what Five Counties is doing to provide important treatment services for families in Peterborough City-County, Northumberland County, the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton County.
