Next Gen Game scores big for Five Counties kids

Video and photos by MaxJVisuals

The Next Gen Game with the Peterborough Petes has surpassed its goal, thanks to a big assist from fans, donors and community partners.

The annual Next Gen Game raised $20,134 to support kids' treatment services at Five Counties. Centre CEO Scott Pepin says he is extremely grateful to the Peterborough Petes, supporters and the community for making the event a big win for kids.

"The Petes and their fans always show up for local kids, and seeing our clients step into meaningful roles while the crowd cheered them on was incredibly inspiring," Pepin says.

The sold‑out Family Day event featured client‑designed t-shirts, interactive family activities, and meaningful game‑day roles filled by Five Counties clients—showcasing the strength of community partnerships and the positive impact they create for local families.

Artist Pat Calvert

Leaving her legacy in paint

There's an art to the giant water-themed mural that continues to delight kids/clients and their families at the Five Counties site in Peterborough.

Read the origin story of the mural created in 2002 by artist Pat Calvert. It started with a simple image of a slide with a fish going down, but soon exploded into an underwater world of its own that spans across multiple treatment rooms and hallways at the Centre.

"The murals just came to be -- I'm not sure how," Pat reflects. "My imagination just got carried away."

We want your input to help us do better for families!

Five Counties wants to hear from our families to see how we're doing and how we can improve our services in the future!

Over the next month, the Centre is launching two input-gathering opportunities to which our parents, caregivers and families are encouraged to take part. They include:

  • Caregiver and Family Experience Survey, which runs until March 28, 2026. This short, online survey lets families rate how Five Counties is doing, while offering ideas on how we can do better.
  • Family Focus Group runs in early April. We are asking for six to eight parent participants to join in the focus group to provide us more in-depth information.

Please consider taking part and sharing your ideas and input!

Make it Monthly: Show your support for Five Counties

March is 'Make it Monthly' at Five Counties, a time to recognize the impact of monthly giving.

For non-profits, monthly donations provide reliable, year‑round funding, strengthen donor engagement, reduce fundraising and marketing costs, and support long‑term sustainability.

Monthly giving is also beneficial for donors. It offers predictable budgeting, a simple and automated way to give, and the flexibility to adjust your contribution at any time.

If you’ve been thinking about becoming a monthly donor, or increasing your monthly support to help even more children access the services they need to thrive, learn more!

An easier way to request personal health information

Accessing personal health information for Five Counties kids/clients just became a lot easier.

A new online Access Request Form is now available to use on the Five Counties website.  The form is designed with parents in mind, with the goal of making the process of requesting information for their child as efficient and accessible as possible.

This form is intended for parents only. If a third party (such as Children's Aid, school, physician, lawyer, community care providers, or others) requires information, they should follow their own established procedure for requesting info.
