Make Your Smile Count! Program - 3rd Grade Students
Make Your Smile Count! is a no-cost, statewide Dental Check for 3rd graders conducted by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH).
With parental consent, students are checked for cavities, fillings, dental sealants, and any need for follow-up dental care. The dental check only takes about two minutes per student. Dental problems are one of the five leading reasons why children are absent from school. Research shows that children with recent dental pain are more likely to miss school and earn lower grades. The Make Your Smile Count! dental check allows ODH to collect data to evaluate trends in dental disease among Ohio school children, measure the impact of dental disease prevention programs, and target resources to improve the dental health of Ohio's children. Ninety-four schools have been scientifically chosen so that the data from all schools combined will tell ODH about the oral health of third graders throughout Ohio. High participation is crucial to ensure the validity of the data.
The date of this event for Five Points Elementary will be:
Thursday, February 8, 2024.
Parent/guardian signed consent forms are required for students to participate. A licensed dental hygienist will look at the student's teeth using a disposable mouth mirror. Infection control standards will be followed. The results of the dental check will be noted in a letter for each child to take home. The letter will urge parents/guardians to contact their child's dentist for any identified dental issues that require follow-up care. Each child who participates will receive a new toothbrush and sticker.
***Information for each student and school will remain private and will not be shared.
The Make Your Smile Count! program information packet, including the information sheet and consent form, will be sent home with 3rd grade students the week of November 6th. Parents, please send signed consent forms back to school as soon as possible after receiving it.

Veterans Day Celebration - Friday, November 10th
Calling all Veterans! If a local family member serves, or served, in the U.S. Military, we would be honored to host you for a light luncheon during your student's lunch period on Friday, November 10th. If available and able to attend, please complete and cut off the form linked HERE, and send it back to school by Monday, Nov. 6th to reserve a spot for this event.
When attendees arrive, they should go through the gate on the east/right side of the building, and park in the playground lot. Please enter though door number 7 by the cafeteria. Photo ID required to enter the building. PLEASE DO NOT COME IN THROUGH THE MAIN ENTRANCE!
Also, we are creating a special Wall of Heroes with photos of our Veterans and our youngest heroes, the military kids in our community; because when a military member serves, their whole family serves, too! You are invited
to fill out a BRICK and add a photo of your special Veteran. Please send completed Bricks back school by Monday, November 6th as well.
In addition, we are asking children to write a special poem to a veteran. Poems can include topics such as gratitude, or showing respect and admiration for our armed forces. Please have your child return their poem to their homeroom teacher by Monday, November 6th. The winning poem, per grade level, will be read during our Veterans Day celebration and the child will receive a prize!
Thank you for helping the students at Five Points Elementary celebrate your heroic service to our country!

Students will not be dismissed to a parked car in the front lot. We appreciate your attention to our dismissal guidelines!
Change in PM Dismissal Communication
If you need to notify the school that your child(ren) will need to change the way he/she typically goes home from school, please contact the office 937-748-6090 as soon as possible. It is always best to send in a note for the change when advance notice can be given. You may also email our receptionist, Patty Wolpert. Having the communication in advance, helps us to ensure we are able to dismiss our bus fleet in a timely manner.
If you send an email to your child's classroom teacher of a schedule change, please include Mrs. Wolpert (pwolpert@springboro.org) on the email as teachers may not have an opportunity to check their email in the late afternoon, prior to dismissal time.
Daycare Communication ... IMPORTANT
If there is a change in transportation, or your child goes home prior to dismissal, please notify your daycare provider of the change. This notification is extremely important as it will allow for our bus dismissal to happen in a timely manner.
