Additional Five Points Information

Absence Notice
Just a friendly reminder, when your child is absent, please be sure to call the office to inform us of the absence. It would be best to notify the office versus the classroom teacher. There have been times this year, the notice has not been shared with the office in a timely manner and you have received notification. To ensure we are notified, calling the office is best at 937-748-6090. You could also send an email to Mrs. Wolpert. Thank you for your attention to this request.
Vacation Notice
Please be sure to submit any upcoming vacation requests to Mr. Lotspaih, Assistant Principal at [email protected] for approval prior to taking your vacation. These days shall be included in the twelve (12) "parent note" absences students are allowed per school year. You can check-out our Attendance Policy on our district website.
School Fees
Third quarter report cards went home on Friday, March 18th to all students that are up-to-date on their school fees. If you have not yet paid your child's school fees, their report card was held in the office. School fees may be paid on-line through PaySchools Central, or they may be paid by check. The check can be sent in with your child, and it should be made payable to Five Points Elementary. In the memo section of your check, you should write your child's name and note 'school fees'. School fees for the 2021-22 school year are $87.

If you are unable to pay the entire balance at this time, we would be happy to assist you with designing a payment plan. Please contact Mrs. Riegle, in the front office, to set up a payment plan.
PURPLE STAR DESIGNATION
Five Points has made a commitment to support our military families and students. We are thrilled to announce that Five Points has just earned the Purple Star Designation which is awarded to schools that demonstrate a significant commitment to the military and its families. Thank you to Mrs. Erin Duncomb & Mrs. Charlotte Rhodes, two of our amazing Five Points teachers, for working so hard behind the scenes to make this happen!

As part of this process, we have created a website to honor and support our military families at Five Points. Additionally, we have created a club where students who come from military backgrounds can join to connect with other children who face similar challenges and experiences. This club is called "The Brave Boro Bunch Club"... click here to sign up! "The Brave Boro Bunch" will meet once monthly!

Finally, if a member of your family has served in the military, please send in a picture of your hero to be displayed on our “Wall of Heroes”.

See details about the Purple Star designation below!
ODE Awards Five Points Elementary Purple Star Designation

Interim State Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Stephanie Siddens recently announced the newest schools across Ohio that received the coveted Purple Star Award this school year. Five Points Elementary is one of the newest schools to be recognized as a Purple Star recipient by the Ohio Department of Education.

The Purple Star designation recognizes schools that demonstrate a major commitment to serving students and families connected to the United States Armed Forces. “Becoming a Purple Star school was important to us because it is one more way that we can support our military-connected students, both in and outside of the classroom, from a social-emotional perspective,” said Alisha Jung, Principal at Five Points Elementary. “Our Ohio military families make so many sacrifices, so it is another way for us to recognize these families and provide as much support as possible to military children that transition into our school."

Springboro Schools’ Board of Education will be recognizing this honor at its April 27th meeting (6:00pm – Springboro High School) by reading a proclamation to various community members in attendance, including Mayor John Agenbroad and the Springboro High School Junior ROTC. “Springboro Schools recognizes that military families face unique challenges, and our district strives to do all that is possible to help our students and their families throughout the school year. We're here to help,” said Superintendent of Springboro Schools Larry Hook.

Among the requirements Five Points Elementary had to meet to receive the Purple Star Award was designating a staff member to serve as a liaison between military-connected students, their families, and the school. The liaison is to inform teachers of the military-connected students in their classrooms and the special considerations military families and students should receive.
Five Points Elementary also had to establish a webpage for military families, which provided resources necessary for attending public school. Springboro High School, Springboro Junior High, Dennis Elementary, and Clearcreek Elementary have already received the Purple Star designation from the State of Ohio. Springboro Intermediate plans on taking similar steps to apply for a Purple Star designation the following school year.

The Purple Star Advisory Board — formed by the Ohio departments of Education, Higher Education, Veterans Services and Adjutant General — helps determine school eligibility.

“Congratulations on earning the Purple Star designation and thank you for your continuous support of Ohio’s families,” said Dr. Stephanie Siddens, Interim State Superintendent of Instruction. “I applaud and appreciate your commitment to serving military-connected students and families.”

Approximately 35,000 Ohio students, including the children of active duty, reserve, and Ohio National Guard families, have one or more parents serving in the military.
SCHOOL LUNCH
A balanced lunch is offered every day of school. Students may also purchase only milk if they bring lunch from home. Like last year, lunch during the 2021-22 school year will be free to all students. Although school lunch this year is free due to federal funding, students still need to have money on their account for a la carte items, such as chips and ice cream. Please check your child's lunch account to verify that your child has a balance to purchase these extra items. Lunch payments may be made on-line through PaySchools Central. Cash or check (payable to Five Points Elementary) is also accepted. Free and reduced lunch applications are also available online.

Daily Attendance
Please contact Patty Wolpert by email or phone (call 937-748-6090) by 9:00 a.m. if your child will be absent.

Change in PM Dismissal Communication
If you need to notify the school that your child(ren) will need to change the way he/she typically goes home from school, please contact the office 937-748-6090 as soon as possible. It is always best to send in a note for the change when advance notice can be given. You may also email our receptionist, Patty Wolpert. Having the communication in advance helps us to ensure we are able to dismiss our bus fleet in a timely manner.

If you send an email to your child's classroom teacher regarding a schedule change, please include Mrs. Wolpert ([email protected]) on the email, as teachers may not have an opportunity to check their email in the late afternoon, prior to dismissal time.

Daycare Communication
If there is a change in transportation, or your child goes home prior to dismissal, please notify your daycare provider of the change. This notification is extremely important as it will allow for our bus dismissal to happen in a timely manner.
Bring Your Own Technology - BYOT
Students are encouraged to bring their own devices (Chromebooks, laptops, etc.) to eliminate shared Chromebook usage within the classroom.

Click here for more BYOT information and recommendations.
Counselor Connection
This school year our Five Points counselors, Mrs. Stumpfl and Mrs. Nelson, will be teaching the MindUP Program and the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Components using the Pathway 2 Success Program. Counselors will implement the lessons at least once a month during the library special.

The five components of Social Emotional Learning are the following:
Self Awareness
Self Management
Social Awareness
Relationship Skills
Decision Making Skills

April Focus:
Decision Making Skills
We can define responsible decision making as the ability to make choices that affect you positively in your physical, intellectual, social, and emotional bodies. Responsible decisions are based on social morals, ethics, and safety. They also involve awareness of the impact of your choice on yourself, your goals, relationships, and others around you.

More concisely, responsible decision-making means making responsible choices that benefit you and your community. Responsible decisions are socially and ethically appropriate and take into account the effects on others.

Here are just a few skills we will be learning about:
Understanding social expectations
Using good social skills
Showing manners
Understanding social cues
Understanding and showing respect
Learning to perspective-take
Have empathy for others
Being kind and caring
Celebrating Diversity in others
