Our first week of the new school year was fantastic! All of the students are adjusting well to their new classes and new schedules!
This week, we will continue meeting new friends, exploring new classrooms, and learning new routines. We are continuing our All About Me theme with a Five Senses Unit so that we can learn a little bit more about ourselves and our classroom friends. Class schedules are in each section this week. Please look at them so you will have a better understanding of your student's day. It is very important that they arrive in time to begin the day with their friends and to be able to participate in all the daily activities. We are still registering for the fall, please pickup new registration forms from the office to make sure that we have your most current information and pay your $50 registration fee. Remember that we give a $50 referral fee for our families that send their friends! We will be closed next Monday for Labor Day! Enjoy the time with family and friends!

Each week the students prepare and eat a special snack that corresponds with our unit of study. We try to make them fairly nutritious and fun. This week our special snack is going to be popcorn.
We have several students with severe peanut and tree nut allergies and need help from all of our families to keep our students safe.  Please do not send your student to school with peanut butter, peanuts or tree nuts of any kind. We are removing it from our menu. We are asking all families to respect this to keep the students safe. Thanks  for your help!

Remember to to keep at least one set of extra clothes in your student's cubbie. Please make sure everything is labeled and kept in a closed gallon ziploc baggy.  If your student has an accident and does not have a change of clothes, we will have to call you to bring them a set. This is so important. When we do not have extra clothes for your student it is uncomfortable for them and requires a lot of teacher time which takes her out of the classroom and away from learning.

We will be placing a Scholastic book order soon. This is a perfect way to get great prices on books for your kids and help us earn free books for our classrooms. There are book orders on the front desk or you can use the link below at anytime.  The code is HQ397.

Tumble Bus comes every Wednesday. If you would like for your student to visit or enroll, forms are available in the office. They offer a free trial class to everyone that is two or older.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A nutritious breakfast sets your students up for a wonderful day of learning and playing. A sugar filled breakfast will lead to high activity levels and an ugly crash when it wears off. Here is a great article about eating a healthy breakfast.

A Sneak Peek At Infants

The
infants are going to be doing lots of fun activities this week with their Five Senses Unit . Their teachers Mrs. Mayra, Mrs. Joanne, and Mrs. Lisa have a great week planned for them. They will be  reading The Noisy Book,  I Went Walking, and Mr. Brown can Moo, can You? .   They will be  singing Hop, Hop All Around, Shake It, and Hit Your Drum. Their fine motor activities will be squishing bananas and putting fruit o and off the felt board Their gross motor activities will be shaking maracas and dancing, playing drums, and moving around on tummies. Their art and sensory activities will be painting with textured sand paint, finger painting with cinnamon scented paint, exploring bubble wrap, and touching sensory hoops with different fabrics.

Some of the songs that they will be singing are Hokey Pokey, Bunny Fingers, and The Body Song.   Their vocabulary  words are eyes, ears, nose and mouth, and their signs are more and eat.  They will be focusing on body parts that use the five senses and using their senses as much as possible. Some of  their fine motor activities will be sorting soft and hard items like cotton balls and wooden cubes, picking up sticky tape balls, shaking different objects that rattle, and picking up feathers and moving them from bowl to bowl.  Some of their gross motor activities will be marching with instruments, jumping on bubble wrap, playing Simon Says, and and dancing and acting out The Body Song. Please make sure your toddler has plenty of diapers and wipes and at least two changes of clothes in ziploc bags. Everything needs to labeled with their names and left in their cubbies. Also, please make sure they are here before 10:00 am. When a toddler arrives right before nap, they do not sleep and cause all of the class to stay awake. Super School Agers

The school age class had a great week transitioning back to school and will continue working to establish new routines. Mrs. Missy will be with them in the afternoon and is more than happy to assist them with their homework if you want her to. Please make sure you let her know if you want your student to work on
homework. Many families want to do it at home and she will not have them do it at school unless you tell her. When they arrive in the afternoons, they are always starving, especially since many of them had lunch before 11:00. To help combat that, we are changing how we do afternoon snack for this class. We will now be serving them a much larger snack. It will be a full meal and will be called after school supper. Please see menu posted above for details. After they eat and have some outside time, they will also have many activities to choose from. Some of their game and manipulative choices will be I Spy, Ned's Head, Charades, Texture Dominoes, and Listening Match Game. Their outside games will be playing Sardines, Hula Hoop relays, Bit Dicey Game (minute to win it game), Toilet Tag, and doing a Flash Flood STEM challenge. Their art and craft choices will be making a five senses collage, Mr. Potato Head craft, texture painting and making scratch and sniff stickers. Their cooking activity will be making sunshine shakes.

If your student needs a ride to school please make sure you have them here  and ready to leave by 7:15. If your student does not need
to be picked up from school please call us by 1:00 pm to let us know.  We will not leave a school without a child unless we hear from a parent that they are not there. This will cause us to be late to the other schools so if you do not call us there will be a $10 fee.

Next week we will be moving on to a transportation unit. Our special snack will be traffic light graham crackers!

Wow, what a day! You will be starting Pre K!
We are so very excited for you and your family to join our classroom.  We will have lots of fun this year.  You will get to go to the messy room, play on the big playground, and go on many learning adventures.  We know you will just love it.  To make it a smooth transition into our classrooms we wanted to share a few quick reminders.
  • Please make sure to say hello to the teacher every morning so she knows you are here.
  • Breakfast time is until 8am in the cafeteria.  No food or drinks may be brought into our classroom.  If you are wanting to bring a lunch or snack, please bring it in a labelled lunchbox.  Any food not in a lunchbox will be thrown away to prevent other children from getting
    into it.
  • We have plenty of toys to play with here in our classroom.  Please leave your toys at home to prevent them from getting lost.
  • You will have you very own cubby in the classroom.  This cubby is for your blanket and change of clothes.  Due to space limitation please do not send any pillows, large blankets, or stuffed animals to school.
  • You will also have your very own hook in the hallway.  This is where you can hang up your jacket and backpack if you bring one. Please only bring a backpack if you need one.
  • You will get to go outside and play of the playground many times a day.  We want you to be safe at all times so please do not wear flip flops, cowboy boots, and shoes that easily fall off of your feet!

Ready to have fun?  I know we are!  So put on a smile and get ready to blast off on an awesome adventure in learning at The Growing Place!
