5 things to know about winter at St andrews

Dear friends,

In a sermon preached in 1957, Martin Luther King, Jr. observed, “We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now.” His words still ring true in a world that often feels polarized, anxious, and unsettled. In times like these, the life of faith calls us not to withdrawal or despair, but to gather, to listen, and to recommit ourselves to love, truth, and hope.

One of the ways we do that at St. Andrew’s is simply by gathering together for community and prayer. In addition to our weekly worship opportunities, we have a number events happening here in the coming weeks. I hope you'll read about these and join us as you are able. In particular, on Sunday, January 25th at 11:30 am, we’ll hold our Annual Meeting and potluck—a time to share a meal, reflect on our common life, and look ahead together. I hope you’ll join us as we continue to discern, pray, and walk this way of faith together.

Peace,

Paul

Annual Meeting and Potluck Lunch

Please plan to stay after worship on Sunday, January 25, for our Annual Meeting and Potluck Lunch.

Bring a favorite dish to share (or just bring yourself—we’ll have plenty!) Items can be brought with you to church and taken downstairs to the parish hall kitchen to be refrigerated or kept warm in the ovens.

Come and enjoy good food, great conversation, and the chance to reflect together on our life at St. Andrew’s and the year ahead. It will be a wonderful way to spend time with friends old and new.

We hope you’ll join us!

Meet the Candidates

Each year we ask our nominees to reflect on their faith background, how they came to St. Andrew's, their ministry involvement, and what they value about St. Andrew's. We invite you to read their responses and learn more about the slate of candidates for Vestry and Deanery/Convention Delegate standing for election at the Annual Meeting.

Thank you to those who have agreed to stand for election, and to the members of the nominating committee for all of their hard work: Sarah Baird, Shirley Harden, Scott Gerstenberger, Lorraine Field, Jeanie Mack-Powers, and Senior Warden Kay Wade.

It's not too late to be a part of the show! The first meeting, a table read of the show, will be on Friday, January 16 at 7:00 pm in the lounge. Parts for all ages and experience levels! Contact director Norm Richert at nrichert@comcast.net with questions.

Volunteers & Donations Needed for Rotating Shelter

St. Andrew’s will be hosting the Rotating Shelter program of the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County from Sunday, February 22 to Monday, March 2. This program provides overnight shelter to 25 men due to over-crowded conditions at the Delonis Center. The men are screened and transported to St. Andrew’s at about 7:00 pm each evening.

Each night, we will provide two volunteers (college age and above) to serve as overnight hosts from 6:30 pm until breakfast the next morning. Additionally, we will be providing dinner this year, and need many donations of food, as well as at least three serving/cleanup volunteers (age 14+) each evening. Training, recipes and other information will be provided.

Are you able to be an overnight host, dinner volunteer, or cook? You can sign up online via the links below or contact Kim Hudolin at KimHudolin@gmail.com

If you are unable to volunteer or donate food, cash donations are also welcome (payable to St. Andrew’s with the notation “Rotating Shelter”). Thank you for your consideration!
