Five Years!
Today marks 5 years since
Ernestina-Morrissey
was hauled out of the water and up the railway at Boothbay Harbor Shipyard. You can check out a time-lapse video
HERE.
and you can find an index of all our posts as Phase I progressed
HERE
.
As we all wait for our communities to adjust to the new Covid 19 normal, take some time to catch up on the latest about our favorite schooner.

OK, Crew!
We all know that to sail a ship well we all work together and we have to follow the orders of the "experts", the captain and the mates. We all can work together to minimize the effects of Covid-19 for ourselves and for our
families
and
friends
and for our Spaceship Earth. The way we pull together is by following the orders of the experts, our Governors and the CDC.
https://www.cdc.gov/
We want all the "crew" of
Ernestina-Morrissey
to sail with us again. Let's pull together to make that happen!

Eric Graves, manager of the Bristol Marine Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor, reports that although work in the yard is curtailed by the CDC guidelines, he has been working with Hannah Gray, the Phase II DCR Owner’s Rep, and Capt. Craig Dalton of MMA on the nearly completed specifications and estimates for the systems that will be installed as part of Phase II.
The contract has not been finalized so there is no work on
Ernestina-Morrissey
now, but Andy says “
We have begun
milling the raw pine lumber which DCR delivered to us a few months ago that came from a State Forest in Western MA. The pine tongue and groove boards will be used in the focsle.” T
his interior finish carpentry will honor the traditional finish of an Essex Grand Banks schooner.
Right now with planning for Phase II progressing, the team has asked for photos of the interior of the ship. They are particularly interested in the aft cabin. Please
contact SEMA
if you have photos to share.

Schooner Ernestina Commission Meeting
|
|
At the Schooner Ernestina Commission on March 6,
DCR Commissioner Jim Montgomery
and Project Director Wendy Pearl indicated that everyone at DCR and in the Legislature was working to finalize
Ernestina-Morrissey’s
status.
On March 10, Governor Charlie Baker
declared a state of emergency
, giving the Administration more flexibility to respond to the Coronavirus outbreak. The Administration and the Legislature turned to working on actions to protect Massachusetts and its citizens from the pandemic. Since then the bill S.23281,
An Act to preserve the Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey
is on the back-burner as the Commonwealth responds to the threat.

THANK YOU,

We wish him the best as he works on his latest project, the Sylvina W. Beal.
