Five siblings start a new chapter at the Humanity First Orphanage

Siblings Zahra, Zakia, Naila, Aini, and Ahmad lost their mother several years ago. The family was already very poor, and their father, a laborer, was hardly ever home. The children became neglected, experienced instances of violence and trauma, and stopped attending school.

In June these resilient children arrived at Humanity First’s Hasanah Kautsar Orphanage in Indonesia. In this safe space the family, aged 8 to 16, can lead normal and happy lives. All five have started school again and are getting help from child psychologists to overcome their past traumas.

Humanity First USA joined HF Indonesia, HF Germany and HF Canada to renovate and support this orphanage, launching the Orphan Care program under HFUSA during our 20th anniversary year. We are honored to invest in the future of these vibrant young siblings and other children in need.

Zakia, age 14: “In the past I used to share one fried chicken among five people. Now I can eat one for myself. One portion is big. We can eat as much as we want.”

Aini, age 13: “I didn’t like my old school because in 4th grade my sister Naila and I were bullied because I didn’t know anything... At that time, I couldn’t read... Now I am in the first grade of junior high school, and I am happy to have quite a lot of friends.”
