A whole new crop of vehicles will be able to receive the coveted sky blue antique license plate now. In Florida, vehicles that are 30 years or older, therefore vehicle made in 1995, can become part of the "antique" community.
Lets take a look at some "antique" vehicles that were introduced in 1995 and may shine at the next local show:
- Acura TL, considered the luxury division of Honda. In 2005, it was the second best selling luxury sedan behind the BMW 3 Series.
- BMW Z3. a 2-seater sports car offered in a coupe or roadster. It was the first BMW to be solely produced outside of Germany. Made in the USA. Greer, South Carolina to be exact.
- Toyota Tacoma, classified as a compact pickup, it was Motor Trend's "Truck of the Year' in 2005. Named after the indigenous people of the Pacific NW coast's word for Mount Rainier in Washington.
There is a fine line between what is considered an antique, collector, or classic.
Not too long ago, in a very busy and small parking lot car show, I nicely asked a guy to move his dented, dirty, work truck to the spectator area. He refused because his truck is 30 years old, therefore an antique. Oh well...
In my opinion, the plate color is not very attractive, but I enjoy the discounted fee and it never gets retired like normal plates do after 10 years.
Let's all have a great 2025
