Friends of mine just finished Route 66, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Before our modern day freeways, Route 66 linked the east with the west and making traveling by car possible. But to me, a car is more than a machine that takes you from one place to another. Being a car enthusiast can take you to spectactular places if only you take the time to look.
During my 10 years on the Hot Rod Power Tour, we tried never to pass up points of interests, local fare, or just a pretty landscaped spot. I started to appreciate the places that we live and even the smallest things can inspire awe.
I have now moved from driver to passenger so I don't miss anything. Steve is very good about turning around or a quick stop if I think I see something of interest. When he asked me if I wanted to go to Raptor Assault School (off-road driving experience for new Raptor owners), I said yes. Mind you, I have no interest whatsoever in trucks, especially new ones. However I saw the possibly of traveling to places I've never been to before.
The school is located in Toele Valley, Utah. Very close proximity to Arches National Park and Canyonland. Even though it is not associated with a car show, Steve's new interest in trucks is taking me to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country.
And if I happen upon a car show, I'll be sure to stop by and have a look.
