Sustainable Tourism
As a member of a new initiative promoting “Responsible Tourism in Wild Places”, Flagstaff has made a commitment to the environment in conjunction with other USA Mountain towns. Our city invites visitors to consider a pledge of $1 per hour spent climbing peaks, walking meadows, or fishing streams to help keep the wild lands pristine. (Visit to learn more.)
In the Spotlight
From May through October, there’s a unique experience to be garnered at The Arboretum.   The gardens and buildings were the former residence of founder, Francis McAllister, who purchased the land in 1967.  The setting, at 7,200 feet elevation (2,195 meters) is unmatched with views of the San Francisco Peaks that have captured visitors’ admiration for decades.  Stroll along 2.5 miles (4 km) of trails, through towering ponderosas and more than 750 brilliant wildflowers and native plants.
Here’s a sampling of the 2020 Happenings to add to travel itineraries:
  1. Guided Segway Tours - Daily
  2. Mixer in the Meadow Social Event – June 7
  3. Summer Concerts
  4. Garden Party – August 31
