LEADERSHIP LETTER: Aubrie Tarantino, Elementary School Counselor
Dear Dragon Families,

It's been great being back at Flagstaff Academy and into the swing of things. I want to thank you for sharing your kids with us. I have really enjoyed getting into classrooms and seeing familiar faces, as well as meeting new ones. In first grade last week, I was introduced to a new friend, Danny. Danny has the super power to choose and we were able to work through Danny's day at school and help make his choices matter. We learned that every day our choices matter and can result in the type of day we can have. If you want to be a part of Danny's adventure with your child, here is the  link to the video. I am hoping to continue this activity with Kindergarten, as well as second graders.

We had a great turn out for our viewing of "Screenagers." I know that this was eye-opening for many of you, and we had great discussions. Many of the parents who attended requested that we provide more resources to go home. Here is a quick guide on how to set  Parental Controls , for  YouTube , and  Netflix .

CMAS testing is in full swing, and everyone is doing great! I know that along with testing, we may be having some nerves bubbling up. Remember to continue to remind your students to come in and do their best. Some tips that can help your student during testing include:
    • Getting a good night's sleep
    • Eating a healthy breakfast
    • Taking deep breaths
    • Arriving on time to school during testing days
    • Include affirmations, such as "you got this," or "you're trying so hard and I see that."
I look forward to working with your students and be able to help them with their social/emotional, and academic needs here at Flagstaff.

Take Care,

Aubrie Tarantino
Elementary School Counselor

Board of Directors 2019 Election Update

Dear Flagstaff Families,

We've had an amazing response to our call for candidates for the 2019 Board of Directors Election. The applications are available for viewing on the  Board of Directors website section

As well, we will be having our  Board Candidate Forum at the Tuesday, April 16th Board of Directors Annual "State of the School" meeting, which is is at 6:30PM in the LMC. In addition to hearing about how our school is doing, the evening is a wonderful opportunity to hear from all the candidates, as well as to ask them questions.  As you know, this year members of the school community will vote to elect  three new directors  to replace the members whose terms are ending this year. The following individuals are running for election to three-year terms on the Board:
        • Samantha Carter
        • William Mahoney
        • Raelene Navulur
        • Katie Nunley
        • Elizabeth O'Hara
        • Julie Prestopnik
        • Jolene Rodemich
        • Brady Toothaker
Each of the candidates have submitted applications which can be viewed on the school's  website. Voting will be held Monday, May 6-Wednesday, May 8. Look for more information on that process.

We are so fortunate to have such an engaged and committed community.

Go Dragons!
