CoreVirtues  Letter from Sharon Aguina, Executive Principal

Dear Families,

Thanks to our outstanding PTO, I want to remind you that on Tuesday, April 24 th , Colorado photographer John Fielder, will visit Flagstaff Academy. I urge your entire family to take advantage of attending his public presentation, "A Colorado Winter" at 6:30 p.m. This is a very important opportunity to enrich your family's lives through personally connecting with someone of John Fielder's caliber right here at our school! John will work with our middle school advanced photography students and give two assemblies, both focusing on the relationship between art, science, and the environment.  Years from now, your student will remember their time with the world-renowned John Fielder!

John Fielder is an American-born landscape photographer and nature writer. He has published over 40 books and is nationally known for his beautiful landscape photography, scenic calendars, and travel guides. He has worked to protect natural land such as the Colorado Open Space and wildlands and worked as an activist to influence legislation earning him the Sierra Club's Ansel Adams Award in 1993 and the Aldo Leopold Foundation Award.  In addition, he speaks to thousands of people each year about conservation of nature.

John is originally from Washington D.C. and spent his youth in Connecticut. As a child he traveled with his family to Colorado. Like our students, he also had an inspirational art teacher! He attended Duke University and majored in accounting. As soon as he finished, he moved to Colorado because he loved it so much!  And the rest is history.

The opportunities we give to students are so important, as we just never know when a small encouragement will culminate in creating a special path for a student.  I have talked to John several times on the phone and he is a bright and fascinating person, and excited to visit our school and spend time with our students! Don't miss this special family event!!!!

So, I hope to see you Tuesday! To learn more about John Fielder, please visit www.johnfielder.com.
