LEADERSHIP LETTER: Wayne Granger, Executive Director

A Strong Finish to a Strong Year!

Dear Dragon Families,

It's hard believe we're at the end of April, with only a few more weeks of school left! I know we say this every year, but it is amazing how fast this year has flown by! With so many milestones reached by our students and faculty, I'd like to share our 2019 Annual State of the School  address which was presented at the April 16 Board of Directors meeting. The State of the School is a wonderful way to see how our school is performing, from our record-breaking parent involvement, to our high performing teachers, strong financials, and vibrant culture. I invite you to take the time to look through it and would like to point out the following highlights from the 2018-2019 school year:
  • Academics:
    • Our 6th grade tied for first in the district for English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics;
    • Our 8th grade was second in the district for English Language Arts/Literacy and first in the district for Mathematics;
    • Launched Envision 2.0 Mathematics Curriculum;
    • Continued CAFE and Daily 5 Support;
    • Principals' presence in the classroom;
    • A strong enrollment season in a highly competitive recruiting environment;
    • Middle School named "2019 Colorado Trailblazer School to Watch."
  • Culture:
    • Three teachers have been nominated for a 2019 St. Vrain Education Foundation Teacher of the Year award: Katie Cook, Chelsee Farrell, and Sean Kemp. The awards dinner will be held on Saturday, May 4; (We're very proud of them and all our teachers!)
    • Our Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) team is busy working on improving behavior and school culture;
    • Four staff members have completed their Master's degree programs: Katie Gustafson, Gael Lester, Stacy Wolff, and Chris Becktold;
    • Over 40 hours DAILY of volunteer support;
    • A strong and positive community presence.
  • Students and Alumni:
    • Two students received high honors at the 2019 Colorado Science and Engineering Fair;
    • Our VexRobotics IQ team is headed to World Championships next week;
    • Our Future Problem Solvers placed first at state and have been invited to compete at Internationals;
    • Destination Imagination team placed in the top 20 in the Heads Up Improvisation Competition;
    • Cyberpatriots, MathCounts, and French Class have all competed with top honors at regional and state-wide events;
    • Our Middle School Choir achieved top scores at the SVVSD Choir Festival and our Jazz Band is participating today at the Greeley Jazz Festival at the University of Northern Colorado;
    • Our alumni continue to graduate with top honors and move onto promising post-secondary careers.
And this is only a few of this year's activities! Of course, there's room to grow and improve and we're dedicated to doing better every year.

So let's have a strong finish and I look forward to celebrating this strong year with all of you! Go Dragons!

Have a great weekend,

Wayne Granger
