Family-School Partnerships

Dear Dragon Families,

Next week parent/teacher conferences are taking place throughout our school. These conferences are a wonderful opportunity to meet with your child(ren)'s teachers to discuss their growth, achievement, and well-being. In addition to meeting with classroom teachers, I encourage you to use this opportunity to also check in with specials teachers and interventionists. At Flagstaff Academy, we care deeply about the whole child and look forward to these opportunities to share in celebrations, as well as struggles. We want all of our students to be happy, to love learning and school, and to feel successful. Partnering with families is a big part of what makes this all possible.

Family and school partnerships can include so much more than attending parent/teacher conferences. We invite all families and staff to be involved in the Flagstaff Academy community through participation in special events like concerts, annual picnics, festivals, book fairs, dances, restaurant nights, fundraising events, summer playdates, book bingo, the talent show, a multitude of volunteer opportunities, and our wonderfully active Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). When we show up, we begin to build relationships with other Dragons. When we build relationships, we build community. An engaged community creates a rich culture and safe climate for our students to thrive. Research shows that when there are strong relationships between families and schools, student motivation increases and positive attitudes are fostered.

If you would like to explore ways to become more involved in our school community, I encourage you to reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator, Jeannie Torres . You can also check out our volunteer web page and connect with our PTO at Contact Flagstaff Academy PTO for all the opportunities, big and small.  
I look forward to seeing you in the halls and at conferences next week. If we haven't had the opportunity to personally meet yet, please drop by my office so we can introduce ourselves. Finally, don't forget to stop by the Library Media Center (LMC) for our Scholastic Dino-Mite Book Fair taking place during conferences....it promises to be a roaring good time!

Spring Parent Teacher Conferences

Our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences format has been created to provide more accurate and individualized information, as well as more prompt testing feedback.  Please sign up with your Homeroom teacher ONLY.  Appointments are also available with specials teachers. 

Your child's teacher will go over progress towards school year goals based on winter term assessments, observations from the teacher, and conversations with your child.

Track registration is open for all 8th-6th graders

Please complete a registration form that includes jersey top size with a check made payable to Flagstaff Academy for $55.00. Discounted athletic registration may be available for households who qualify for free and/or reduced lunch. Please email Kim Hagen Rapp, Business Office Assistant, at khagenrapp@flagstaffacademy.org for more information regarding reduced or waived athletic fees.

The season is seven (7) weeks long and practice will begin on Monday, March 4, from 3:30-5:00 p.m. There is no practice/meetings during spring break. You can find the most current season schedule on the Dragon Athletic Website
Flagstaff Academy's StuCo has accepted the challenge of helping find a cure for Blood Cancers through Pennies for Patients!

Dates: Monday, February 25- Friday, March 8

Our school is joining over 27,000 schools across the nation to make a difference in the lives of Blood Cancer patients. Leukemia is the most common cancer in children, adolescents, and young adults under the age of 20.

Starting Monday, February 25 , our school will be working to reach a goal of $3,000.  Our students are tasked with collecting spare change on their two-week journey to help find a cure for Blood Cancers in honor of local students and current patients.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and  Flagstaff Academy is sponsored by our local Domino's Pizza. If the school raises at least $750, then the top earning class will win a pizza party. By simply donating change through Pennies for Patients, students are able to watch the donations add up, and learn that even a small effort can make a real difference in the lives of others.

All donations must be completed by Friday, March 8. GO DRAGONS!
