  • NO SCHOOL (Professional Learning)

Hi Parents,

I wanted to let you know that our Board of Directors has adopted the new Academic Calendar for the 17-18 school year. Here is a link to the new calendar.

You will notice that we have added four additional professional development days for teachers, which means we see students four fewer days than in years past.  Before our students attended for 174 days, but next year it will be for 170 days. Professional development is critically important and research indicates that professional development should be collaborative, ongoing, and embedded during the school year. Next year, we will be able to adhere to these best practices with the additional days for staff professional development.

Right now, we currently give our teachers one half (1/2) day each month to plan curriculum, work on professional development, etc. We do this because there just isn't enough time within the school year or day. This means that each month your child has a substitute for that 1/2 day while the teacher is working with colleagues.  Research shows that it is more important for your child to be with their regular teacher in the classroom, rather than a substitute.

In order to lower the number of times teachers have to miss actual class time with students, we proposed this new schedule so we can give our teachers adequate professional development and planning time, while best meeting the needs of our students. Now, there will be no need to have teachers out for the 1/2 day each month, which ultimately increases their face time with your child.

Additionally, our school day is longer than the district school days, so our students still end up with more class time than their peers in other St. Vrain Valley schools.

Should you have any questions regarding this new calendar, please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be more than happy to discuss it with you.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Robin Lowe ,
Executive Principal

The school does not open until  7:45 a.m. for students and visitors. This includes the playground. Please do not drop students early as we do not have staff to supervise or assist in the case of an accident or emergency. If you must drop your child early, please register for Dragon Flight care.

Numbers are expected to continue rising through March.  If your child is experiencing any "flu like symptoms" such as aches in the body, head, or stomach, fever, chills, fatigue, vomiting and/or sore throat please keep them home to rest and hydrate.
