LEADERSHIP LETTER: Wayne Granger, Executive Director
|
Dear Dragon Families,
Welcome to 2019! I remember when I thought it was going to be weird to write a "2" in front of a date. I can't believe that now we've been doing this for almost twenty years! I hope that 2019 proves to be a fantastic year for our school and your families. I'd like to start off the new year with an update on our Elementary Counselor position, as well as an invitation to join us for our Dragon Cafe:
Elementary Counselor Update:
I've recently received feedback that some parents have expressed confusion about whether we were eliminating the elementary counselor position. To clarify, this has never been our intention. The social and emotional health of our students is critical to their success. We've been looking to make sure the duties and responsibilities continue to meet our needs, and we are committed to maintain this important student support position.
Since early December, we've been reviewing applications. The position has been posted on multiple job boards and websites, including school mental health professional associations, the school district, and the Colorado League of Charter Schools jobs board. The new year has brought in more applications and we're scheduling interviews for early next week. When we find a qualified candidate, we will make a hire as soon as possible.
Our former monthly "Coffee with the Principals" has been renamed "Dragon Cafe"! At Dragon Cafe, any member of our team may be on hand to discuss issues relevant to our school. Please join us for the January Dragon Cafe in the LMC Cafe on Wednesday, January 30th, at 8:30 a.m. We'll have pastries, coffee, tea, and juice.
This month, topic is funding. I'll be sharing how school funding works for Flagstaff Academy, and how that funding impacts everything from salaries, facilities, and field trips. I'll also be discussing the importance of helping us close the charter school funding gap through fundraising and our Annual Activity fees.
Thank you for being a part of our amazing educational community. We value your input, ideas, and commitment to Flagstaff Academy.
Here's to a terrific 2019!

From the Health Office
Did You Know:
The highest incidents of lice in any school are when students come back from summer break and winter break?
Please encourage your student to hang or keep their coats/scarves/hats away from other students outerwear. It's also important to encourage students to NOT share hair brushes, hats, or headbands. As well, the popularity of "selfies" have give lice a new avenue to roam.
Flu Season Continues...
We are at the height of cold and flu season. If your student is under the weather, please keep them home until they feel better. If you are unsure as to whether your child should stay home, please look at Flagstaff Academy guidelines: "
When to Keep Your Child Home."
Thank you for helping to keep our school healthy!
