Dear Parents,
It is once again time for us to ask for your help! We will having our Junior Achievement (JA in a Day) on  Friday, March 3rd. All students in all grade levels will be participating in this experience.
As a JA volunteer, you will use your life experience to become a role model for our students, teaching them about the "economics of life" and helping them understand the fundamental connection between school and success.
You don't need any special financial skills or knowledge in order to volunteer.  Volunteers receive training on how to use JA's hands-on, proven curriculum, and the teacher is there with you for support.
If you are a returning volunteer, there is no need for you to receive additional training. However, if you are new to the program, our onsite volunteer training will be on  Thursday, February 16, 2017, at  6:00 PM in the LMC. If you are unable to attend the onsite training, please email Marla Zulch ( mzuch@jacolorado.org) to receive the online training link.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This past week we started doing our announcements at 8:15 a.m. in the elementary school in the attempt to have students in their seats and ready to learn at that time. We were finding that when students were dropped off in driveline at 8:15 a.m. they were not arriving in class until 8:20 a.m., which took away five minutes of valuable learning time. Some things we have learned this week during this time is that we have had less tardies, students are listening and actively participating in announcements, and students are ready to learn.  

Some parents were concerned that they only had ten minutes, from 8:00-8:10 a.m., to arrive for school. Driveline starts at 7:45 a.m. at Flagstaff Academy, not 8:00 a.m. You have a 25-minute window to arrive. Our driveline staff sets up at 7:45 a.m. and students are welcome to come inside the building to the Commons to wait for the 8:00 a.m. elementary bell. During that time, we have the Commons supervised by a few of our Specials teachers. There is now an 8:10 a.m. bell that rings to inform students that they have five minutes to get to class before announcements begin. Our driveline staff will start to come inside once they hear that bell and assist the remaining students inside the building to try and get them into their classroom by 8:15 a.m.  

We understand that this is a change for many families and even a five minute shift in the morning can be very impactful. We know it is an adjustment that might take some time for many families and we will remain understanding and caring as we all get used to this beneficial change for our students' education.

We are not trying to penalize students; we want to make sure that valuable instructional time is sacred. Our goal is to provide all students the opportunity for an educational environment that is free from multiple interruptions and focused on learning. Thank you so much for your understanding and assistance with this small adjustment.

Administrative Hiring Committee for Executive Principal

The Administrative Hiring Committee (AHC) is tasked with running a recruiting process for a new Executive Principal (EP) and recommending candidates to be approved and hired by the Board of Directors. AHC members will be approved by the Board. Flagstaff parents, staff, and community members with applicable expertise such as human resources, education, organizational leadership, and supervision are preferred, but not required -- the most important qualification is a passion to serve our school.

Applications are available on the school's website and are due by Friday, January 20th, at 8:00 p.m. (MST). The Board plans to approve AHC members at a special late January meeting.

A reminder that our  2017-2018 Intent To Return Form  is now available online! When filling out the form, please put in your child's future grade level for the 2017-2018 School Year. 

If you'd like to enroll non-Flagstaff Academy students for the 2017-2018 School Year, you will need to fill out an Enrollment Application, which is also now live. As a current Flagstaff Academy family, your application will be given priority status.

If you have a PreK-2 student returning for PreK 3 or PreK4, please fill out the Intent to Return for that student.

Calling All Budding Actors and Actresses!
All 3rd through 5th grade students are invited to  tryout for Flagstaff Academy's production of Shakespeare's play "Macbeth" - there are 21 parts!

Flagstaff Academy will be is participating in the SVVSD Shakespeare Festival. 

*The Macbeth script has been edited and created for younger actors/actresses; however, please keep in mind that it is still Shakespeare with some higher level content including violence.  
  • Students must pick up an audition piece from Ms. Cynkar beginning on Friday, January 13th. 
  • Tryouts will be held immediately after driveline on Monday, January 23rd in Ms. Cynkar's reoom
  • Students will participate in three performances: one for elementary school, one for middle school, and one at the Shakespeare Festival. 
  • Practices: Monday's 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., January 30-May 1 in the portables. 
  • We need 2-3 parent/high school student volunteers for practices. Please email Ms. Cynkar at ecynkar@flagstaffacademy.org if you are interested. 
  • Final performance at the Shakespeare Festival: Friday, May 5.

The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley 2017 Encore Awards

The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley has scheduled the 10th Annual Tribute to Teachers for Friday, May 5. We encourage our entire Flagstaff Academy community to nominate our excellent educators for this prestigious award! 

About the Encore Awards
This awards program, sponsored by the Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley, provides the opportunity for students, parents, community members and business partners to recognize and honor individual teachers at the Pre-K-12 levels in the St. Vrain Valley School District who exemplify excellence in teaching. By paying tribute to the achievements of teachers who have an extraordinary impact on the achievements of students, the Foundation and the community hopes to pay tribute to the accomplishments of all teachers.

Award Winners
One teacher from each St. Vrain Valley School will receive Encore recognition. At least two other teachers from each school will be honored as finalists. The Encore Awards are presented annually at the Tribute to Teachers celebration.

Nominations are due no later than Wednesday, March 15, 2017. Nomination forms can on the Education Foundation website, or at the front office. 
2016-2017 Activity Fees are Still Being Accepted!

Yes, your Annual Activity Fees were due on October 1st, but if you haven't paid them yet, we will continue to accept payments! Annual Activity Fees go toward purchasing essential items such as:
  • Student workbooks
  • Consumable classroom supplies
  • Software licensing for technology programs
  • Buses and tickets for field trips
  • Elementary specials program materials
  • Middle School electives
  • Special educational guests
  • Community school supplies
  • (copy paper, tissues, paper towels, disinfectant wipes, etc.)

Or pay with cash or check, payable to "Flagstaff Academy." Partial Payments also accepted. 
Families eligible for Reduced/Free Lunch are eligible for reduced or free student activity fees.

Student Activity Fees payments are non-refundable.

Late parents will be charged $1.00 per minute/per student that they are late. After 15 minutes, they will be signed into Dragon Flight, and required to pay the annual registration fee and $20 drop-in fee. Please consider volunteering to help the after school runs!

About the 100-Mile Club: The 100-Mile Club is a club open to all students at Flagstaff Academy. The 100-Mile Club gets students moving before, during, and after school with the end goal of reaching 100 miles by the end of the year. After they register, students are welcome to come to any and all practices!

Flagstaff Middle School Social Committee is hosting an Ice Skating Party for middle school students only.

Cost:  $5.00 (includes skate rental)

  • Please remember to put the student's name, grade and TEACHER in with all Box Tops in a sealable bag/envelope. Box Tops with no teacher name will be included in the general Box Top fund. 
  • Please continue to trim the Box Tops prior to submitting them.
  • Please only include NON EXPIRED Box Tops. Box Tops do expire!!!
  • Please note that eBox Tops will not count towards these totals! Although, we appreciate all eBox Top submittals, there is no way to track all of them to a specific classroom. eBox Tops will be included in the school totals, so please submit them. Only actual Box Tops that are turned into the teacher will count towards these classroom awards.
