LEADERSHIP LETTER: Jantrey Meyer, Middle School Counselor
Upcoming Events about Important Issues

Dear Dragon Families,

I wanted to take a moment to highlight some important and timely events coming up to address recent trends that we are seeing in our community. Did you know that e-cigarettes and vaping devices are more popular than tobacco cigarettes with young people? Even though e-cigarettes have been around since the 1960s, the device didn't take off until the early 2000s. These electronic smoking devices have surpassed traditional tobacco products and are now the most commonly used nicotine product among young people. To address our concerns about this trend, on Tuesday, March 12, at 6:30PM we will be hosting a parent night with Staci Stallings, School Resource Officer at Silver Creek High School, to give a presentation on e-cigarettes and vaping devices. She will share what to look for, what vape devices contain, as well as the potential legal and school consequences. Officer Stallings will also be doing a student presentation on vaping to seventh and eighth graders at the March Late Start. This topic is already being addressed with sixth grade students in Compass classes.

Additionally, on Tuesday, April 9 at 6:30PM we will be hosting a screening of "Screenagers" to address growing up in the digital age. Do you feel like your child's cell phone or other electronic device have become permanently attached to their body? As a result, do you see students spending too much time on screens? Do you wonder about the impact of all this screen time and conflicts that arise when parents try to set limits on the amount of screen time? "Screenagers" is a documentary by Delaney Ruston that addresses how screen time impacts a child's development and offers solutions on how parents can empower their child(ren) to best navigate the digital world and find a healthy balance.

I hope you will consider joining us for these events. Knowledge is power and I know you will walk away with tips on how to address these issues with your own child(ren).

For some tips on how to talk to your child about e-cigarettes, click this link .

Thank you and if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

2018-2019 Flagstaff Academy Parent Survey
YOUR VOICE MATTERS!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On  Monday, March 4th , you will receive an email from Dr. Josh Packard and the
Social Research Lab  inviting you to take the 2018-2019 Flagstaff Academy Parent Survey. Please take 5-10 minutes to provide us your valuable feedback to continue improving Flagstaff Academy to serve your family.  The survey period is open through Friday, March 22nd.

We have some really fun incentives for classes who have the highest survey return rates - the top elementary and middle school classes will get to have a "Free Dress" day!

Finally, please make sure to login to Infinite Campus to make sure we have the correct email for you.

We count on your feedback and thank you! Go Dragons!

StuCo Spirit Day: Mythical Creatures!

NJHS Donut Sales - 10:30-11:00AM

Flagstaff Academy's StuCo has accepted the challenge of helping find a cure for Blood Cancers through Pennies for Patients!

Dates: Last week - Through Friday, March 8

Our school has joined over 27,000 schools across the nation to make a difference in the lives of Blood Cancer patients. Leukemia is the most common cancer in children, adolescents, and young adults under the age of 20.

Through Friday, March 8, our school will be working to reach a goal of $3,000.  Our students are tasked with collecting spare change on their two-week journey to help find a cure for Blood Cancers in honor of local students and current patients.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and  Flagstaff Academy is sponsored by our local Domino's Pizza. If the school raises at least $750, then the top earning class will win a pizza party. By simply donating change through Pennies for Patients, students are able to watch the donations add up, and learn that even a small effort can make a real difference in the lives of others.

All donations must be completed by Friday, March 8. GO DRAGONS!
Report Cards

Elementary School parents, your student's report card will be available for viewing/downloading on Infinite Campus as of Monday, March 4

Below are instructions on how to view and download your child's report card through Infinite Campus. Families should print report cards each year for records directly from Infinite Campus. Report cards are not available online from previous school years.
