CoreVirtues  Letter from Sharon Aguina, Executive Principal

Dear Flagstaff Families,

It is my pleasure to tell you that Teacher-Parent Conferences have been an uplifting experience for all of us. Conferences are an important time when teachers and staff join together in saying we are happy to have you as part of our school family. One of our biggest goals for the year is to help your child feel successful and achieve academic excellence. By working together, we can build a foundation or lifelong learning. We welcome your participation and support and enjoy  celebrating the achievements of our students with you.

Teacher-Parent Conferences gives you an opportunity to increase communication between school and home, keeps you informed about your child's progress, and develops a plan for your student's future. One of the best features of Flagstaff Academy is the high level of parental involvement. When children see their parents involved at school, it sends the message that there is an expectation that the entire family is invested at school and as a result, the children do well.

Here are some reminders about how to cultivate your high expectations at home. Every parent should know what is going on in their child's daily school life. Try to do the following things every day:
  • Ask your child how their school day went. Engage in conversation about what they learned, whom their friends are, what they had for lunch, etc.
  • Make sure your child has time set aside to complete homework and be there to answer any questions or assist when needed.
  • Read all notes/memos sent home from the school and/or teacher, both paper and electronic. Notes are the primary form of communications between a teacher and parents. Look for them and read them to stay up-to-date on events.
  • Contact your child's teacher immediately if you have any concerns.
  • Value your child's education and express the importance of it every single day. This is arguably the single most valuable thing a parent can do when it comes to their child's education. Those that value education often thrives and those that don't often fail.
In addition, we want to also thank our PTO for working hard to make our Teacher-Parent Conferences a success by providing dinner for our hardworking teachers, as well as having a table to tell parents about our upcoming "Cheers to Flagstaff" event.
Flagstaff administration and faculty value the many important contributions families make towards our students' success in school.
We want to thank everyone for your continued support of our students, teachers, and school as we collectively strive to provide optimal opportunities for learning each and every day.

Thanks for showing your Dragon Pride,

Sharon Aguina

2017-2018 Flagstaff Academy Parent Survey

On Monday, February 26th, you received an email from Dr. Josh Packard and the Social Research Lab inviting you to take the 2017- 2018 Flagstaff Academy Parent Survey. The Social Research Lab helps to ensure that survey responses are aggregated and kept anonymous.

Please take 5-10 minutes to provide us with your valuable feedback to continue improving Flagstaff Academy to serve your family. The survey period is open through Friday, March 16th.

We have some really fun incentives for classes who have the highest survey return rates - the top elementary and middle school classes will get to have a "Free Dress" day.  Finally, make sure to login to Infinite Campus to make sure we have the correct email for you!

We count on your feedback and thank you! Go Dragons!

2018-2019 Board of Directors Elections

Join the Board of Directors!

The Flagstaff Academy Board of Directors Elections Committee is now accepting applications for Board of Directors positions. At the end of this year, we will be saying goodbye to two members, Chris O'Hara and Brendan Meuse, who have dutifully served for three years. We are thankful to each of them for their many hours of service and the role they each have played in shaping Flagstaff Academy.

Members of the Board of Directors are volunteers responsible for providing oversight and governance for Flagstaff Academy in accordance with the mission and charter of the school. Board members help set and approve the school's annual budget, define school policies, help guide the academic mission, and oversee the work of the Executive Director and Executive Principal.

This year we are seeking two (2) new members to join the Board of Directors. We have a particular need for Directors who have legal, financial, or educational expertise. But most importantly, we are seeking people who have a passion to serve, work well as a team, think critically, are willing to learn, and will make decisions for the betterment of the school as a whole. We have had men and women from all walks of life serve successfully as members of the Board.

Serving the Board of Directors can have a very meaningful impact on our school, so please consider applying! Applications are available on the school's website, and are due by Friday, March 30, 2018 at 5:00PM. If you have any questions about the elections process, please email Paul Shoning, Vice President/Elections Chair at pshoning@flagstaffacademy.org.
