CoreVirtues  Letter from Sharon Aguina, Executive Principal

Hello Flagstaff Families and Happy March!

The winter months are rapidly coming to an end. We've been extremely fortunate as we've endured a relatively mild winter thus far . Spring is around the corner and learning is in full swing here at Flagstaff Academy. As you may know, this is the time of year when students make the most academic and social learning gains. It is also an important time for reminders about healthfulness as we want all children here, on time, every day to maximize their potential.

On the academic front, we have just finished making a selection to renew math materials with EnVision 2.0 for students K-5. This series offers classic math foundations including math facts, but also has the problem-solving required of 21 st century math thinking. Teachers are thrilled to have these materials and parents will have access to online tutorials, games, and more as we move into next year. We are already seeing increases in math for our students based on our work this year looking at the new trends in math questions and tasks. Having state-of-the-art math materials is a BIG DEAL to our hardworking teachers. To see the thinking and skills that students need and parents can easily reinforce at home, please visit this informative website: http://www.rbbcsc.k12.in.us/document-library-list-view/parents/383-working-with-the-ccr-instructional-shufts/file

We will be holding a parent committee to discuss parents' perspectives on math grouping for students in grades 1-5. If you would like to attend the first meeting, please email me at saguina@flagstaffacademy.org  (if you have not already let me know of your interest).

March 23 and April 4
Math Teachers will discuss and determine Math Pathways and Advanced Math
March 22, April 5, April 19 A Parent Committee will be convened to discuss and give input on Math Pathways and Advanced Math

If you would like to provide your ideas, insight, or feedback on math grouping, please answer a brief survey at the following link:  https://goo.gl/forms/f4Hw4RjAMJhal6mN2.

I hope you can join me for my monthly Coffee with the Principal on Thursday, March 15 at 8:30AM. We'll be discussing the Flagstaff Academy  Discipline Plan. I look forward to seeing you there!

Lastly, I cannot thank the school community enough for their continued support and help in making this year a fantastic experience and a solid foundation to build upon. Each student, parent and staff member is invaluable to our collective success.

2017-2018 Flagstaff Academy Parent Survey

On Monday, February 26th, you received an email from Dr. Josh Packard and the Social Research Lab inviting you to take the 2017- 2018 Flagstaff Academy Parent Survey. The Social Research Lab helps to ensure that survey responses are aggregated and kept anonymous.

Please take 5-10 minutes to provide us with your valuable feedback to continue improving Flagstaff Academy to serve your family. The survey period is open through Friday, March 16th.

We have some really fun incentives for classes who have the highest survey return rates - the top elementary and middle school classes will get to have a "Free Dress" day.  Finally, make sure to login to Infinite Campus to make sure we have the correct email for you!

We count on your feedback and thank you! Go Dragons!

2018-2019 Board of Directors Elections

Join the Board of Directors!

The Flagstaff Academy Board of Directors Elections Committee is now accepting applications for Board of Directors positions. At the end of this year, we will be saying goodbye to two members, Chris O'Hara and Brendan Meuse, who have dutifully served for three years. We are thankful to each of them for their many hours of service and the role they each have played in shaping Flagstaff Academy.

Members of the Board of Directors are volunteers responsible for providing oversight and governance for Flagstaff Academy in accordance with the mission and charter of the school. Board members help set and approve the school's annual budget, define school policies, help guide the academic mission, and oversee the work of the Executive Director and Executive Principal.

This year we are seeking two (2) new members to join the Board of Directors. We have a particular need for Directors who have legal, financial, or educational expertise. But most importantly, we are seeking people who have a passion to serve, work well as a team, think critically, are willing to learn, and will make decisions for the betterment of the school as a whole. We have had men and women from all walks of life serve successfully as members of the Board.

Serving the Board of Directors can have a very meaningful impact on our school, so please consider applying! Applications are available on the school's website, and are due by Friday, March 30, 2018 at 5:00PM. If you have any questions about the elections process, please email Paul Shoning, Vice President/Elections Chair at pshoning@flagstaffacademy.org.
