LEADERSHIP LETTER: Gael Lester, Acting Principal, K-2

Dear Dragon Families,

Today finishes off a wonderful week of teacher appreciations. Our talented, dedicated, and caring staff are truly our greatest asset, and it has been wonderful to see them showered with your thoughtful and generous expressions of appreciation. If you didn't get a chance to participate in the scheduled activities of the week, it is not too late to reach out to your child's teachers and express your heartfelt gratitude. Often it is the handwritten notes of thanks that have the longest-lasting impact. I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Teachers save these notes and letters from families for a lifetime. In times of doubt, struggle, after facing a tragedy, or the simple sheer exhaustion that sometimes comes with our chosen profession, we pull out the smile-file and re-read every single note. It helps us remember our "why," which brings a sense of peace and satisfaction knowing we are doing what we love and making an impact.

The end of the school year can often be bittersweet. Teachers love their students and the classroom families they have created. Though they will miss them, teachers feel proud to see student accomplishments as they prepare to share them with their next teacher. As summer approaches, our teachers are ready for a break to rest, reflect, and recharge. While students love their teachers and seeing friends at school every day, they are excited about summer fun and new opportunities.

As I finish up my second year in school administration, I will be reflecting on the year and how I can continue to improve my own practices while helping Flagstaff Academy be the absolute best school for our students and staff. I also relish the summer and look forward to spending down time with my family and enjoying the luxury of reading a good novel.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer season!

Gael Lester
