LEADERSHIP LETTER: Gael Lester, Acting Principal, K-2

Dear Dragon Families,

As I write this, fall is fading and winter is arriving. Elementary students have finished the first trimester, and middle school students are well into their second quarter. We have become accustomed to new teachers, made new friends, and learned the routines and expectations. When walking the halls and visiting classrooms, I've been impressed with how well students are following the CHAMPS expectations set out by their teachers. Classrooms feel respectful and are busy hubs of learning and cooperation.

Thanksgiving break is here! This break can offer much-needed downtime to relax and recharge. Some of you may be traveling over the break, and some of you may be having a low key vacations at home. Either way, I recommend squeezing in a trip to the library at the start of break to grab reading material or audio books just for fun! If you are sticking around, I recommend a few family game nights to enjoy laughs and togetherness. You can also help your child arrange time with friends. Encourage them to play, build forts, make art, or turn their playspace into a makerspace. While it can be easy and fun for students to enjoy screen time to play games, or watch movies, challenge them to use their imaginations to create something new over the break. Whether in the kitchen, the yard, the workshop or playroom, their imaginations can be the key to home entertainment!

This is also the season of gratitude. Listening to the stories of loss surrounding the fires in California have been a poignant reminder to me to acknowledge and focus on what I do have, and to share my gratitude with others. While I know we all come from different backgrounds and places, and have different stories to tell, the one thing we do all have in common is our school community. I'm so grateful for a wonderful school that has been part of my life for the past nine years. Not only were my own children educated here, but it's been home to my passion for education, first as a parent, then as a teacher, and now as an administrator. I'm extremely lucky to find my home here with the caring, talented, and dedicated staff, involved and supportive parents and families, and the most wonderful children. They make me smile and laugh every day, and are my true source of inspiration. I send you all my best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving!

Spirit Day - Ugly Sweater Day!
 Volunteer Greetings, Dragon Volunteers!

This is a great time of year to sit back and reflect on the growth we've seen in our Dragon Volunteer program. In this month of thanks, I would like to personally express my gratitude for your continued dedication and support of our school and its staff members.

Please know that you're giving such an important gift all year long - your time! Material gifts only stay with us for a short time, but the memories you share with your student's school community last a lifetime! Our students, teachers, and staff benefit from your service as a volunteer. I hope you, as parents and members of our community, benefit as well!

My sincere gratitude,

Jeannie Torres
