LeadershipLetter
LEADERSHIP LETTER:

Dear Dragon Families,

At Flagstaff Academy, we're grateful for all the ways in which our families give. We have an amazingly generous community that gives to our Parent Teacher Organization who enriches our program with technology, training, equipment, curriculum, and activities. Our talented volunteers donate more than 20,000 hours annually- the equivalent of ten full-time employees! Our Annual Student Activity Fees contribute by paying for supplies, software, and field trips.

Yet, even with these existing efforts, we have a funding gap. This gap is created by our using general operating revenue to pay down our facilities debt. Unlike other traditional public schools, as a charter, we must pay for our own buildings out of operating revenue rather than construction bonds. We do this because it allows us to be flexible and creative in the use of our space, but it does create a financial need that we must address each year so our teachers and students have the necessary resources to keep the magic happening in our classrooms.

How does this involve you? There are two ways our Dragon families can help us close this gap:
  • Yesterday, you received an invitation to participate in "Colorado Gives Day," on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Flagstaff Academy's Colorado Gives campaign is dedicated to growing the Adam J. Burton Memorial Fund. This year, Flagstaff Academy's Colorado Gives campaign is dedicated to growing the Adam J. Burton Memorial Fund. Our fundraising goal of $10,000 will allow us to support even more students and continue Mr. Burton's legacy.

  • Make sure you've paid your Annual Student Activity Fees. These dollars are counted on to cover the direct costs of supplies for classrooms, science lab, art, as well as the software subscriptions and programs needed to achieve our science and technology mission. These funds are also used to pay for transportation and admission to field trips. While most schools collect these fees in many individual fees such as a $35 technology fee and a $40 art fee, etc., our school has combined them into one simple fee. If the full amount presents a hardship, we are happy to work with you on a payment plan. Receiving these fees from every family is critical to our budget and closing the funding gap.

We appreciate all the ways our community works together to create the vibrant school environment we call Flagstaff Academy. Thank you for all you do!
