LEADERSHIP LETTER: Abby Bok, Acting Principal, 3-5

Hello Dragon Families!
September has always been my favorite month. The weather starts to cool, leaves begin changing and the classrooms have found their groove. Relationships are such a huge part of the culture at Flagstaff Academy. During the first five weeks of classes, teachers have been building those relationships within the classroom on an individual level and with the new class, as a group. A positive classroom environment is such a critical element for students to feel safe, connected, and successful.
I spent a great deal of my summer reading, and the one quote that stood out to me the most came from
Culturize, a book by author and educational leader, Jimmy Casas. In the book Casas writes, "Let's remember to strive to make each month, throughout the school year, as positive as August." Those high fives, warm smiles, and positive greetings should never stop. Remember those first days of school, as your child was so eager to see their friends and teachers, and continue to be as excited and supportive as you were, and we will do the same.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Flagstaff Fall Festival next weekend, Saturday, September 22nd. This family-focused PTO event is the first social event of the new school year and is always a crowd pleaser for our entire school community. Let's continue building those relationships with our new families, and strengthening those already established.
See you there!
Abby Bok
Acting Principal, 3-5

October Count Day/Late Start Update
After thoughtful consideration of the associated impacts of changing our October 3rd Late Start to mirror the St. Vrain District, we have decided that we will keep our originally planned Late Start schedule for Wednesday, Oct. 3rd. The professional development we have already planned for our staff that morning is valuable and tied to our academic improvement efforts. This is also during our Spirit Week leading up to our Dragon Dash on Friday, Oct. 5th and I know there are fun activities planned to support this amazing PTO fundraiser for our school.
As this is also the State of Colorado's official student count day, it is very important for your children to attend school on October 3rd. Our state operating revenue is determined from our student count. Please support your school by ensuring your child's attendance, unless they are sick.

Dragon Dash FUNdraising STARTS on Tuesday, 9/18!
Dragon Dash - the PTO's largest fundraiser - will take place on Friday, October 5th. As always, this year's event will offer every student the opportunity to run, jog or walk in order to raise money for our school. Our goal is to raise
$45,000
this year. Fundraising will be easier than ever this year as it's moving online! Here is what you need to know:
Parent Action Steps:
- Register your student(s) on FUNRUN.COM starting on Tuesday, 9/18.
- Reach out to family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors by sharing your pledging link.
- All pledges and payments are made online.*
- Cheer on your student at the Dragon Dash Fun Run on Friday, 10/5!
*Cash and check payments will still be accepted. Must be turned in by 10/18/18 in an envelope clearly labeled with your student's name. Your student will still get credit for the donation.
"Run and Done" Collections:
- EASY for everyone! Donors only have to sit down once to pledge/donate and pay!
- Donors can either make a pledge per lap or a flat donation! If they make a pledge per lap, their credit card is charged after the Dragon Dash Fun Run on Friday, 10/5!
