CoreVirtues  Letter from Sharon Aguina, Executive Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I am just so pleased by the outstanding beginning of the school year and am amazed by our school's ambient culture, cutting-edge academics, and warm and caring parent community.

Communication between home and school is extremely critical towards providing an effective instructional environment for our children. As we prepare for Elementary Goal Setting Conferences (October 11th and 12th) and Middle School Conferences Open House (October  12 th ), we look forward to your insights regarding your child's education and input about the school year. As a parent, you provide valuable information for your child's classroom teacher, so they are better able to address your child's needs. Our teachers truly appreciate your support that you give to your child in his/her education while at home.

During your conference, your child's teacher will be sharing information about curriculum, your child's achievement in a variety of academic areas, work habits, and peer relationships.

This is an important time to work mutually in setting goals for your student and we appreciate your questions and ideas. We consider parents as our partners in preparing students during their academic career here at Flagstaff Academy.

I look forward to seeing you at conference time and hope to get a chance to connect with you when you are at school for this important time together.

Sharon Aguina,
Executive Principal
Flagstaff Academy

Volunteer Calling all Dragons!
Flagstaff Academy wants to make your involvement in your student's academic career easy and rewarding. Students become more vested in their education when they see significant adults from their lives involved at school. Please visit our Dragon Volunteer Site  to view and sign up for our current volunteer needs.
Late Pick Up Fees

Flagstaff Academy students must be picked up before the school closes at the end of each school day. School closes 30 minutes after classes end. On regular school days, classes end at 3:30 p.m. and the school closes at 4:00 p.m. On early release days, school closes 30 minutes after classes end.

After 30 minutes, parents will be charged a fee of $5.00 at the 5th minute after the school closes, and $1.00 for each minute thereafter for late arrivals. Fees will be applied to the student's Infinite Campus account. This is effective immediately.

The Dragon Flight after school child care program is available for students who cannot be picked up during regularly scheduled school hours. The Dragon Flight program and registration information is available on the Flagstaff Academy website. Please contact the Dragon Flight Director, Jeanna Peppler at  jpeppler@flagstaffacademy.org for questions regarding the program. For families needing financial assistance, Dragon Flight participates in the Colorado Childcare Assistance Program (CCAP). Families must complete the online registration process prior to students attending drop-in care.

In the event of an emergency, please contact the school as soon as possible at 303-651-7900, so arrangements can be made for your student(s).

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
New Lost and Found Process!
Beginning Monday, September 25th, a new lost and found system will be implemented. This system will maximize limited storage space and organize the lost items.

What you need to know:
  • Any item labeled with a legible first and last name will be returned to the student if not picked up by the student within a week.
  • Lost and found volunteers will take a picture of any items without a legible first and last name and post them on the Dragon Lost and Found Google Drive: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6kHSlBUvwGjxbU8Z2
  • Any unlabeled item will be donated to the OUR Center after 7 days.
  • A donation master schedule is available to view at any time through the following link: http://bit.ly/2yiWjuT
  • Date Found refers to the date an item was placed in the lost and found, not necessarily the day it was lost.
  • Any item without a legible first and last name placed in lost and found that is leaking, very stinky, or very soiled will be thrown away immediately. This decision will be made by the lost and found volunteer. An effort to empty food containers, water bottles etc. will be made to keep items from being thrown away unnecessarily.
  • All items found prior to Monday, September 25, will be placed in the purple bin immediately and donated on October 2nd.
  • Mind Map of Process, also with links: http://bit.ly/2wGK7rw
  • Please e-mail questions or concerns to DragonLostAndFound@gmail.com.
Flagstaff Academy Preschool is happy to present FLIP IT ®, a special series of classes for parents and guardians of PreK and Kindergartners. FLIP IT is a strategy that uses four supportive steps to help young children learn about their feelings, gain self-control and reduce challenging behavior.

Dates: Thursdays, October 5, 19 and 26
Times: 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Location: Library Media Center
Cost for all three classes: $30 before October 1; $40 after October 1
Taught by Cathy Moyer, Early Childhood Education expert.
Participants must attend all three sessions.

Register at:  https://familyflipit.eventbrite.com

About the FLIP IT Training:
The four steps are embodied in the FLIP IT mnemonic which stands for F - Feelings, L - Limits, I - Inquiries, P - Prompts. FLIP IT is nothing new, but transforms best practice into a strategy that is easy to remember, applicable in a variety of challenging situations and portable. Children who are frequently "FLIPPED" become emotionally aware problem-solvers who develop healthy coping skills that will last a lifetime.
