WGranger MESSAGE FROM WAYNE GRANGER,
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Welcome Back!

Happy August Dragons!

I hope everyone has had a relaxing and enjoyable summer! But can you believe it's already early August and we are just over ten days from the first day of school? We have had an exceptionally busy summer as our construction from the 2016 Bond has been taking place. Here are some highlights:

FRONT OFFICE:
The front entry is improved with two levels of security, and we have all new HD security cameras throughout the entire campus. The vestibule in front provides a buffer from the elements which means more efficient energy use. Our space is improved so that we can provide better customer service to our families and guests. We also replaced four of our 20 year old roof top HVAC units and mechanical controls to help provide more efficient heating and cooling.

DRIVELINE:
We wrapped a vehicle lane all the way around our building so that we can get more vehicles on our property at afternoon driveline. We are still working on the operational improvements to go along with this added space. The primary purpose for this change is to eliminate the waiting vehicles on the street which create congestion and unsafe conditions. More information on how this new lane will be utilized will be coming soon. Please know that any changes will be constantly evaluated and improved to make our afternoon release safe and efficient.

WEST FIELD:
As you probably saw last Spring, our west playground field was losing all of its grass. The Board of Directors authorized the use of reserve funds to replace the field. But, we did not want to just put down new sod. We want to do this right and find out why the grass was not growing. We sent soil samples to Colorado State University to help determine how to create the greatest chance of success for the grass to thrive, especially under our high use. That analysis revealed very poor soil conditions that required the removal of seven inches of soil and clay. That soil is being replaced with quality topsoil and the replacement of our irrigation system as well.

Unfortunately, by the time the sod is laid, it will not have had any time to take root before school starts. That means that our west field will be off limits for recess for at least eight weeks. Our Assistant Principals and recess team already have developed a plan for maintaining recess during this critical time for the new sod to take root.

I will continue to provide updates throughout the fall. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Thank you to everyone who helped us throughout this summer. I am confident the safety and efficiency improvements for our school will be seen for years to come.

See you soon!

Wayne Granger,
Executive Director
Flagstaff Academy
