CoreVirtues  Letter from Sharon Aguina, Executive Principal

Dear Dragon Families,

Next week we are holding Elementary Goal Setting Conferences on Wednesday, October 11th and Thursday, October 12th, as well as a Middle School Conferences Open House on Thursday, October 12th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. If you have not signed up yet, we urge you to do this. We know you are busy, but your partnership in your child's education ensures success at school and for your student's future. A key ingredient for educational achievement are the goal setting conferences. Here are some ideas on how to navigate this "All-Important Meeting" designed to set goals for your student's school year here at Flagstaff Academy. We want you to take an active role in your child's education year-round and come prepared on how to discuss how your child can reach their full potential.

Get Ready . Do your homework prior to the conferences. Prepare by writing notes to yourself concerning:
  • Any questions about the school's programs or policies.
  • Things you can share with the teacher about your child and his life at home.
  • Questions about your child's progress.
Ask Important Questions.  Don't be afraid to engage in a frank conversation with your child's teacher. Your goal is to develop an action plan for your child's success at school. Good questions to ask the teacher include:
  • What are my child's strengths and weaknesses?
  • How does my child get along with classmates?
  • Is my child working up to his/her ability? Where could he/she use improvement?
  • What can we do at home to support what you are doing in the classroom?
Participate in Setting and Implementing Goals.  Set goals to help your student grow. Start immediately on the action plan you and the teacher put together.
  • Discuss the plan with your child and track progress.
  • Support your student at home with homework and activities that support their goals.
  • Stay in touch with your child's teacher throughout the year with regularly scheduled "report card" conferences that can keep the communication lines open.
When teachers and parents work together, we can help children to have a successful school year.

Have a great weekend!

Executive Principal

From the Health Office

There are many reasons a student may need a fresh change of clothes while at school. It happens at all grade levels:
          • Muddy fields
          • Bloody noses
          • Food spills
          • Bathroom mishaps
The Health Office is in need of gently used clothing for boys and girls of all sizes (PK to Middle School):
          • Pants
          • Leggings
          • Underwear
          • Socks
If your students have outgrown some of their school clothing and you're looking to free up closet space, consider dropping off your gently used clothing during front office hours. Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. Thank you!

Flagstaff Academy students must be picked up before the school closes at the end of each school day. School closes 30 minutes after classes end. On regular school days, classes end at 3:30 p.m. and the school closes at 4:00 p.m. On early release days, school closes 30 minutes after classes end.

After 30 minutes, parents will be charged a fee of $5.00 at the 5th minute after the school closes, and $1.00 for each minute thereafter for late arrivals. Fees will be applied to the student's Infinite Campus account. This is effective immediately.

The Dragon Flight after school child care program is available for students who cannot be picked up during regularly scheduled school hours. The Dragon Flight program and registration information is available on the Flagstaff Academy website. Please contact the Dragon Flight Director, Jeanna Peppler at  jpeppler@flagstaffacademy.org for questions regarding the program. For families needing financial assistance, Dragon Flight participates in the Colorado Childcare Assistance Program (CCAP). Families must complete the online registration process prior to students attending drop-in care.

In the event of an emergency, please contact the school as soon as possible at 303-651-7900, so arrangements can be made for your student(s).

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

New Lost and Found Process!
Beginning Monday, September 25th, a new lost and found system will be implemented. This system will maximize limited storage space and organize the lost items.

What you need to know:
  • Any item labeled with a legible first and last name will be returned to the student if not picked up by the student within a week.
  • Lost and found volunteers will take a picture of any items without a legible first and last name and post them on the Dragon Lost and Found Google Drive: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6kHSlBUvwGjxbU8Z2
  • Any unlabeled item will be donated to the OUR Center after 7 days.
  • A donation master schedule is available to view at any time through the following link: http://bit.ly/2yiWjuT
  • Date Found refers to the date an item was placed in the lost and found, not necessarily the day it was lost.
  • Any item without a legible first and last name placed in lost and found that is leaking, very stinky, or very soiled will be thrown away immediately. This decision will be made by the lost and found volunteer. An effort to empty food containers, water bottles etc. will be made to keep items from being thrown away unnecessarily.
  • All items found prior to Monday, September 25, will be placed in the purple bin immediately and donated on October 2nd.
  • Mind Map of Process, also with links: http://bit.ly/2wGK7rw
