LEADERSHIP LETTER: Wayne Granger, Executive Director

Dear Families,

Every spring our students in grades three through eight take the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) assessments in Math and English Language Arts, as well as Science and Social Studies. School assessment data for Math and Language Arts has been released from the state and we are excited to share the results. Flagstaff Academy has earned the state's highest rating, "Performance with Distinction." Our rating does reflect "low participation;" however, we saw increased participation from the previous year which helps to more accurately reflect our high level of academic performance. The ratings are based mainly on achievement on statewide tests and growth from year to year on the language arts and math tests.

Standard SVVSD Ranking
English Language Arts Achievement*
6th Grade-Tied for 1st
8th Grade-2nd
Math Achievement 6th Grade-Tied for 1st
8th Grade-1st
English Language Arts Growth** All Grades Combined-2nd
4th Grade-2nd
5th Grade-3rd
6th Grade-1st
8th Grade-1st
Math Growth 8th Grade-1st
*Achievement: % students who met/exceeded standards
**Growth: Students who grow from year to year as a percentile compare to State

Flagstaff showed outstanding achievement in the percent of students who met or exceeded grade-level expectations in English Language Arts. We are one of nineteen schools in the District where the number of students Met or Exceeded Expectations in half or more of their tests. Sixth grade tied for first in the district and eighth grade was second overall in the district. In mathematics, our sixth grade tied for first in the district and our eighth grade was first in the district for the percent of students who met or exceeded grade level expectations.

Our students also showed outstanding growth in English Language Arts from the spring 2017 assessment. Overall, Flagstaff Academy was second in the district for student growth in English Language Arts. Both sixth and eighth grade students were first in the district for growth, fifth grade was third, and fourth grade was second in the district. In math, eighth grade student growth was first in the district.

We are proud of our students' growth and achievement; however, we are always striving to improve in order to provide the best possible education for our students. Several areas targeted for improved student achievement include:
    • Writing across all grade-levels
    • Reading in primary grades
    • Math in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.
    • Middle school is also focusing on increasing opportunities for students to write across all content areas.
This year, we've adopted a new math curriculum called EnVision 2.0 in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Our teachers have spent many hours in professional development and curriculum planning in order to be able to hit the ground running. Students have already begun working in the new curriculum and will soon be wrapping up their very first topic. We are thrilled that the great work of our literacy coach will continue to help refine literacy practices and writing opportunities for our students in all grades. Finally, students will again be able to practice math skills via the iReady Math instruction program. You can find links to both the new EnVision 2.0 and iReady on the Flagstaff Academy website  by navigating to Academics and then Elementary School, as well as on teacher landing pages.

This school year the state assessment window will be open from April 8, 2019 through April 26, 2019.

For more information on which tests students take at each grade level please visit the Colorado Department of Education's  website .

Enjoy the long weekend!

Wayne Granger,
Executive Director
Flagstaff Academy

Dragons! Great Job on Driveline!

Driveline is going very well, especially this soon in the year! Because everyone is learning their routines so well, we can pull back our AFTERNOON DRIVELINE arrival times by a few minutes so that everyone can be on their way sooner.

New Afternoon Driveline Arrival Times:
          • RideShare - Prior to 3:24 p.m.
          • Wave 1 - 3:35 p.m.
          • Wave 2- 3:45 p.m.
Driveline is typically finishing around 3:50 p.m. Please be sure you are here prior to 3:50 p.m. as we stop driveline when there are no more waves of cars arriving. If you arrive after 3:50 p.m., driveline may be over and you will have to sign out your student from the front office.
