CoreVirtues  Letter from Sharon Aguina, Executive Principal

 Making Every Day Count!
The Importance of Good Attendance at School
On September 6, 2017, an article ran in the Longmont Observer entitled "September Proclaimed as 'Attendance Awareness Month' by the Longmont City Council". By recognizing this month, a local school official noted that school attendance is one of the most important factors that students have to lifelong success.

According to the City Council communication, "Attendance Awareness Month" is a nationwide recognition of the connection between school attendance and achievement" and is used "to encourage schools and communities to remember that engagement matters for attendance."

The pace that curriculum and new concepts are presented at Flagstaff Academy moves quickly. Missing a day or two is like coming to the movie theater at the end of the movie and being expected to know everything that happened in order to understand what's coming next. With Core Knowledge, much of the teaching and learning is foundational and comprises an important step in the instructional building blocks for the future.

It is a fact that students who attend school regularly learn more and are more successful than students who do not. Parents who make regular school attendance a priority are also helping their children learn to accept responsibility, and that is an important lesson for a successful life. Attendance patterns are formed early in life. Children who develop good attendance habits in the early grades will be more likely to continue them throughout their school career, as well as into their chosen career as adults.

When students attend school regularly they are able to experience carefully planned sequences of instruction, active learning experiences, class participation, and the opportunity to ask questions.

As a parent, we encourage you to make sure your child develops the habit of regular attendance  and the lifelong benefits that ensue.

Enjoy a beautiful weekend!

Sharon Aguina,
Executive Principal
Flagstaff Academy

Tuesday, October 2nd is October Count Day!
Why October Count "Counts"!

Did you know that at least 70% of our per pupil funding comes from the official October student count?

Please make sure your student is at school on Tuesday, October 2nd! If you have an appointment scheduled for your child, do your best to have them in attendance before or after!

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have questions, please contact Sheila Strukel, Registrar, at  sstrukel@flagstaffacademy.org.
You can register your student as a "walker" and still choose to pick up your student in Drive Line?

Submitting the walker registration form notes that you have given Flagstaff Academy permission to allow your student to leave the school premises at the end of the day. This does not require your student be a walker every day. It simply  allows you the daily option to either use the Drive Line or pick up your student at an alternate, predetermined location that works for your family.

Late Pick Up Fees

Flagstaff Academy students must be picked up before the school closes at the end of each school day. School closes 30 minutes after classes end. On regular school days, classes end at 3:30 p.m. and the school closes at 4:00 p.m. On early release days, school closes 30 minutes after classes end.

After 30 minutes, parents will be charged a fee of $5.00 at the 5th minute after the school closes, and $1.00 for each minute thereafter for late arrivals. Fees will be applied to the student's Infinite Campus account. This is effective immediately.

The Dragon Flight after school child care program is available for students who cannot be picked up during regularly scheduled school hours. The Dragon Flight program and registration information is available on the Flagstaff Academy website. Please contact the Dragon Flight Director, Jeanna Peppler at  jpeppler@flagstaffacademy.org for questions regarding the program. For families needing financial assistance, Dragon Flight participates in the Colorado Childcare Assistance Program (CCAP). Families must complete the online registration process prior to students attending drop-in care.

In the event of an emergency, please contact the school as soon as possible at 303-651-7900, so arrangements can be made for your student(s).

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
