The expression “Flaming June” is beloved by headline writers, implying that the month traditionally brings tropical warmth.

However, the phrase is actually not directly connected with the weather.

Flaming June is the title of Sir Frederic Leighton’s 1895 painting of a woman in an orange dress sleeping under a canopy in the summer heat.

When it comes to your pumping assets, the first thing I would do is “walk the plant” and make a note of any leaks, poor readings on gauges, panel warning lights, strange noises, vibrations and machines not running that should be.

If you have remote sites too, then get them inspected, or if running BMS (Building Management Systems) check for any warning signals.
If you hold a planned maintenance schedule, check against each item to see if anything is out of date.

Next, prioritise your list of works and start with the sickest or most critical case and work through the lot.
