Dear Members of the Purchase Day Camp Family,
Today Governor Cuomo surprised everyone by announcing that day camps can open on June 29th. When I say “surprised”, I mean it. I spoke with a Supervisor at the Westchester County Department of Health during Cuomo’s press conference and our local DOH was not aware of the announcement and had no prior knowledge it was coming. She did indicate that they had a conference call later this week with the State DOH. I am sure more information will be forthcoming.
Some of the questions that were not answered are:
- What phase do you have to be in to open? Is June 29 for the upstate regions that are entering phase 2 tomorrow?
- Are pools allowed to open? That is a key element for camp.
- And most importantly, what are the actual guidelines and rules that we will have to follow?
Without these and many other questions answered, we cannot be sure it is appropriate for us to open this summer.
Since the announcement at approximately 11:45, we have had over 20 phone calls asking our status. That is why I am sending this Flash Update. Nothing has changed since I wrote to you last week. We are evaluating our status and working hard to see if opening is feasible and appropriate.
I promise that as soon as I have an answer, one way or the other, I will let you know ASAP. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Stay healthy and happy and enjoy the fresh air today!!
