Flavors of Kendall Restaurant Week Selects
A Safe Haven for Newborns to
Receive Proceeds from Launch Party
Flavors of Kendall Restaurant Week Event
This past June 20, the brand new Hilton Miami Dadeland hosted the launch party for the first-ever Flavors of Kendall Restaurant Week to take place June 24 through the 30. Rosa Albert, Director of Sales and Marketing for the hotel in conjunction with the Flavors of Kendall Team, a group of leading restaurateurs and business professionals, orchestrated this event to highlight the restaurants in and around Kendall. Their goal was to bring awareness to the many outstanding restaurants that dot the Kendall gastronomy scene; while at the same time make a difference for a local charity.

The Gloria M. Silverio Foundation 501 (c)3, A Safe Haven for Newborns was selected to be the recipient of the monies raised that evening as part of the launch event. Safe Haven for Newborns founder, Nick Silverio, was humbled and very appreciative of this generous gesture that would enable him to continue his mission to save the most defenseless among us, the newborn. "We are very grateful to have been included, and we will be promoting the Flavors of Kendall Restaurant Week through our social media channels," said Silverio.

Some of the area's culinary celebrities answered the call from this dynamic group of professionals and were present to showcase their restaurant's culinary delights. A collection of tantalizing aromas could be savored throughout the venue as scores of food aficionados made their way around stopping at each of the tasting stations to sample the offerings. "We are very pleased with the warm reception and turnout here tonight from the restaurants and the enthusiastic foodies who came to help us launch the Flavors of Kendall event. We have started a new tradition in Kendall," said Albert.

Some of the restaurants that were showcasing their culinary specialities at the kick-off party included Aoki Teppanyaki, Devon Seafood & Steak, Earl's Kitchen & Bar, Iberico, Inari Sushi, La Mirage Lounge and Whitney's restaurant at Miami Marriott Dadeland, Pisco y Nazca, Pubbelly Sushi, Sokai Sushi Bar at the Falls, Table 55® at the Hilton Miami Dadeland, and Two Brothers. And, these were just the tip of the iceberg of all the restaurants guests will be able to enjoy June 24 through the 30 during restaurant week.

In addition to the lavish array of tantalizing food and tasting options, patrons had the opportunity to win exciting prizes that included dining gift certificates, and hotel stays from those establishments participating there that evening; and, even a Beach Cruiser bike courtesy of Cox Media. Tickets for the raffle were purchased for a nominal fee from Gloria Burns, an ambassador for A Safe Haven for Newborns who was going through the roll of tickets at record speed.

A Safe Haven for Newborns is a local, small charity with a huge mission — to end infant abandonment. After the passing of his beloved wife, Gloria, in 1999, founder Nick Silverio has dedicated his life to creating a safe haven for the unborn infant by offering a safety net for the young, scared pregnant girls and giving their newborn a chance at life.

The Safe Haven Family Continues to Grow
Another newborn was recently welcomed into the A Safe Haven for Newborns family, making the precious infant the 309 th member of the ever-growing family tree.

A Safe Haven for Newborns is dedicated to bringing an end to the ultimate in infant abuse — abandonment; an escalating crisis all over the world. Women, some barely in their teens, find themselves with an unexpected pregnancy, no support and no resources they are abandoning their newborn out of fear and desperation; more often, then not, culminating in the infant’s demise. These expectant moms feel confused, abandoned, with nowhere to turn for help and guidance.

A Safe Haven for Newborns is the safety net they need to make an informed decision that will be in the best interest of their unborn child and themselves. Through the Foundation’s confidential 24/7 multilingual referral helpline, the expectant mothers can be directed to the nearest resources such as counseling, parenting, health-related issues and confidentially placing their newborn safely and legally with a staff member at a Safe Haven location. The Foundation has assisted other states and countries serving as the prototype as they structure their program.

“We believed from the beginning if we saved one life all of our efforts would be worthwhile,” said Nick Silverio, Founder of A Safe Haven for Newborns. That was 309 precious newborns ago — 303 in Florida, five in other states and one little one in the country of Honduras. These newborns are now living with their forever families and have a chance to pursue their dreams. But the mission is far from over. “We need your help in getting the message to these young women that ‘they are not alone’ help is just a click or a phone away,” said Silverio.

There are several ways you can help. By registering in our Be a Friend program and connect with us on social media and invite your family, friends and business partners to share our mission of saving lives; attend our fundraising events (gala, 5K walk, golf tournament); give a donation; or, volunteer your time. 9th Annual A Wonderland in Safe Haven Gala
The Gloria M. Silverio Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that operates on the generosity of its supporters to assist the pregnant woman that reaches out to them in need of assistance. Each year they hold three fundraising events — a 5K walk in the winter, a golf tournament in the spring, and the signature event, the annual gala in the fall. These events are the primary means they use to raise funds needed to operate and come to the aid of the most defenseless among us — the newborn. This year’s gala will take place on Saturday, October 19, at the InterContinental - Miami Hotel in downtown Miami.

Different levels of sponsorship opportunities are available for each event, allowing our corporate partners to make a difference in the life of an unborn child.

Your sponsorship helps to fund…
  • the confidential 24/7 multilingual referral line
  • provide resources for counseling, parenting or health-related issues
  • create the materials used to educate the community and bring awareness to the plight of the scared pregnant young girl.
  • produce public awareness campaigns utilizing social media and statewide billboards
  • implemented a community service app for high school and higher education students

You are invited to make a difference by being a part of the 9th Annual A Wonderland in Safe Haven Gala. For sponsorship opportunities, to purchase a ticket to the event, to make a donation to the Silent Auction, or to volunteer your time to help organize and bring to fruition the gala, visit the A Safe Haven for Newborns website.
